In 1911, the first ever International Women’s Day (IWD) was celebrated by over 30,000 women across Europe. On the 8th of March every year, we celebrate and call for change. You can learn more about the history and how to participate on an official basis for IWD on the UN website or IWD Website. However, for those of us who are unable to celebrate through official events for whatever reason, I am bringing Women’s Appreciation Week to Tumblr for 2015. This is for all of us who love the female characters in the many fandoms on Tumblr. I’ve taken different elements from these two posts for inspiration/ideas.
- Day One, Monday 2nd Favorite Female Lead - Everyone has that one female character they would protect and fight you on til the end of their days. This day is for that woman!
- Day Two, Tuesday 3rd Favorite Female Drive Show/Film - This is for a TV Show or Film that is mainly driven by women! Let’s celebrate female driven media!
- Day Three, Wednesday 4th Favorite WOC - We all want to see more representation on TV and in film, this is your chance to appreciate one/many of those WOC that you adore and/or would like to see more of.
- Day Four, Thursday 5th Favorite Relationship - Your favourite female relationships, whether they be romantic to platonic or family-related! This can be canon or AU, it’s all up to you!
- Day Five, Friday 6th Favorite Inspirational Character - Have you ever seen a woman character and thought she was inspirational? Maybe she helped you make a big decision in life you were struggling with or helped you through a difficult time. Today is the day you get to show some appreciation for her.
- Day Six, Saturday 7th Unfairly Treated Female Character - Every fandom has one, don’t they? That female character that is treated unfairly or poorly in canon or by the fandom. Show her some love.
- Day Seven, Sunday 8th Free Choice! - You get to choose to make whatever you like, the choice is yours to appreciate a female character in general, themed or not. Go crazy.
