Fun science facts time

You know how Vulcan has a thinner atmosphere? Less densely oxygenated than Earth’s, yknow, cause it’s mostly sand?

Well see the thing about having a very oxygen rich atmosphere is that it also protects the planet’s surface from radiation through yknow chemistry. That’s how the ozone layer works but we’re not unpacking that in detail right now

So not only is Vulcan hotter than damn

You’ll also sunburn extra bad

Oh post canceled I just remembered it’s already stated in canon that the planet is midly irradiated 👎 but hey now you know why that is

Anyway does anyone who’s more familiar with A. Science available in the mid-late 60s and B. Star trek production know if they made Vulcan make sense on purpose or did they just try to make a planet that’s fucked up and inhospitable and this just sort of happened. Because Vulcan is actually totally plausible

Some of the writers were hard sci-fi writers. It would not surprise me to find out they thought these things through.

Oh… You know what would be real helpful for a species living in a planet with low oxygen and therefore high UV radiation? A third eyelid that protects your peepers from intense light sources.

Ohoho! It’s all coming together
