i don’t mean to be insensitive because apparently kathy griffin really put little barron trump through it with that picture of herself pretending to hold donald’s decapitated head or whatever but i can’t help but to be reminded of the hell that sasha and malia had to go through since the day their father announced his run for office

like just the coverage this is getting + the emphasis on barron’s mental state and the outcry of “think about the children” is wild because when white supremacists all over this dumb ass country were constructing puppets of barack obama so they could lynch them and set them on fire / drawing cartoons of him as a primate / making posters asking for his birth certificates and wishing death upon that man / etc. the media did not give one inch of a whole fuck! so much so that it’s even to the point where people today are saying “what if we had been this violent when obama was in office” which is either some really selective memory or (if i’m giving them the benefit of the doubt) they really had no idea this was going on

my point is that this is literally a prime example of black girls being robbed of their childhoods + being expected to be graceful about it lmao no one was thinking about obama’s children when they were stringing a dummy modeled after his likeness up a tree as a whole crowd of demons crowded around it for a hardy fucking chuckle so why am i, a good person, expected to care just because barron’s imagination ran away from him like i’m sorry that doesn’t sit well with me especially after the hell those two little girls had to go through at the expense of some ugly racist adults

no one ever wants to protect black children and that’s just a snapple fact

hey American followers – if you like public libraries I’ve got some bad news for you

the Trump administration’s proposed budget plan for FY18 includes cutting all funding for the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) which is….. bad. I’m my library system, IMLS pays 11% of our total annual budget, which doesn’t sound like much, but in a lot of rural areas or states without as much state-level support for libraries, IMLS is responsible for the bulk of their operating costs and loss of this funding could mean the complete closure of central branches and loss of library resources for entire communities

I talk about this a lot on here, but libraries aren’t just free books – they’re a crucial service for under-served communities, they provide job search assistance to job seekers, crucial early learning and literary skills to kids, they provide information and access to people with no other way of getting them, they provide free internet and computer access, a free and safe place to be for homeless people, for teenagers after school, for families who can’t afford expensive daycare, and many of them provide free lunches for kids in the summer who aren’t getting lunch because they aren’t in school, and countless other things

there are so many communities out there who cannot afford to lose this funding and to lose the support that their libraries provide

go read about this. go call your senator. America’s pretty fucked up right now, but if we’ve done one thing right, it’s libraries, and we can’t afford to lose them

This is actually a rather big deal, even if it will mostly go unnoticed.

Some additional context and fallout:

This is related to a story the New York Times published about the bombing. British press don’t have the same First Amendment protections American press does, and their journalists often don’t publish information the U.K. government doesn’t want them to. U.S. journalists do not operation under the same restrictions and will publish anything unless given convincing reasons publishing said info will endanger lives or significantly impede an investigation (most often the government cites “national security” as a reason not to publish even the most mundane stories—this is b.s and American journalists know it).

Now Trump is using May’s annoyance over this to launch an investigation into “leaks.” Remember that Republican and Trump talking points regarding information coming out about the Russian investigation have been to “go after the leakers.” Remember also that Trump asked former FBI director James Comey to prosecute journalists who publish leaks.
