TL:DR of my extremely long “what I would change about the DS9 finale” post. Except this version is shorter but STILL very long.
- Ezri and Bashir regret their sexcapades. Ezri realises she’s still living in Jadzia’s shadow, Julian just isn’t into it that much.
- Miles and family plan to move to Bajor where Miles can be in charge of engineering reconstruction, because he’d only be bored at Starfleet Academy.
- Winn bitches at Dukat more, because he deserves it, and she also calls out his weird Sisko obsession and the vanity behind it.
- Instead of hanging out in a Holosuite, Quark takes some food to Kasidy, makes some unwelcome comments about pregnancy on Ferenginar and then reminds her that Sisko beìng the Emissary means he’ll always have a higher calling than family or career.
- Damar survives, because there’s too much chance of Cardassia going all Weimar Republic without him.
- Kira yells at Odo for his decision to join the Founders, pointing out that his grasp on morality always becomes shaky when he’s around other changelings and his tendency to prioritise order over justice means the last people he should be hanging out with are a bunch of fascists. He sees her point and changes his mind.
- Damar kills Weyoun. Garak takes a shot at the Female Changeling after reminding her of their first meeting on the Defiant, but she survives until Odo can cure her.
- Garak is weirdly hesitant to stay on Cardassia, Bashir demands to know why and they have Meaningful Eye Contact. Bashir says he’s going to stay on Cardassia to practice “frontier medicine” and they embrace.
- Vic Fontaine does not sing “The Way You Look Tonight.” He sings fucking “My Way.” This is a finale FFS.
- Kira goes to Bajor with Sisko because Dukat is her arch nemesis too.
- Sisko and Kira get to tell Dukat just how badly he fucked things for Cardassia.
- Winn survives but gets punched by Kira for calling her “my child” again.
- The entire crew plus Jake and Kasidy head to the wormhole to get Sisko back, calling out the Prophets for their selective interference, their inability to be honest with Sisko and their manipulation of corporeal beings.
- Kasidy brings it full circle by talking about loss and being stuck in a moment of grief, just like Sisko did in the first episode. This is something the Prophets understand.
- The Prophets let Sisko go and free him from being their Emissary. Everyone goes home.
