Today’s petty opinion is that if you write in your Star Trek fanfiction that “Christmas used to be a religious holiday, but now it’s secular and almost everyone on Earth celebrates it!” then you should rethink that and write something else instead.

I am happy that a certain time of year brings joy to you and your community but it is really difficult to live as a non-Christmas-celebrating-person in the US, and I feel erased and invisible and marginalized as a Jew every year. My hope for the future is not that the demand for assimilation to Christian hegemony worsens, but that we are able to honor a diversity of traditions from various cultures and religions with equal respect.
