The thing that I hate about atheism as a movement is that it doesn’t just want to critique the hegemony of Western Christianity, it wants to kill spirituality. There is no joy, there is nothing about it that isn’t founded in a pessimism that sees itself as so self-important that it cannot exist outside of destruction. The face of atheism is a white male disgruntled ex-Christian who decided that if he can’t find joy in religion, then nobody else can. There’s a leftover missionary sensibility to “enlighten” people to atheism that exposes itself as racist, antisemitic, and islamophobic, that’s ultimately not unlike the dominance exerted through colonial Christianity

Atheism ™ is just western Christianity with the spirituality removed.

It is still as proselytizing, self-important and violent as it ever was. It retains the obedience-culture and ‘morality’ of western Christianity dismissing all other thought as primitive and barbaric.

I was literally just thinking about this earlier

I always find it so funny when people bitch about ‘forced diversity’.

because, like, once you work retail you start to see just how different everybody is.

for example, the other day I greeted a woman I was ringing up and started asking her the usual questions we’re supposed to ask (if they have a rewards card, etc) and she made a gesture pointing to her ear and mouthed ‘I’m deaf’.

and I was just like ‘Oh’, and so I skipped over the questions and just gave her a nice smile instead of the usual schpiel we’re supposed to give. she thanked me in sign language and smiled back before walking away.

and that’s just one tiny example. she was just one customer of hundreds that shift. that’s not even mentioning all the other types of people I ring in a day, of all ages, body sizes, races/skin colors, and gender expression.

it’s like…that’s how the world is.

when people say having diversity in a fictional universe seems ‘false’ or ‘forced’, that says to me that they must exist in a very homogenous, sheltered environment. because even working for a company that has a rather disproportionately-high white middle-class customer demographic, I still see more diversity on any given day than I tend to ever see in books and movies and TV shows.

it’s just kind of laughable to me when people say a movie/book/franchise has “too much” diversity. because there’s no such thing.

When they say diversity is being ‘forced’ they are saying “It’s bad enough I have to tolerate your existence here in this world. I don’t want to have to ever think about you in a fictional one.”

So what the fuck is with plus size clothing’s aversion to basics? I was thinking about it, and it’s like…they can’t ever just let a nice, simple item exist, and have to throw on some weird detail. Especially in professional wear, I’ve noticed. It’s like, impossible to find a plain basic thing to layer with. Some of these things can be cute and fun, but not when you can barely find a plain version if you’re lucky. Some examples:

-Oh, a nice cardigan! THE BACK IS LACE.
-Oh, what a nice sensible top for work OH LET’S CUT THE SHOULDERS OPEN.
-a nice, simple camisole WITH FUCKING RHINESTONES ON THE TITS
-This is a pretty dress WITH ONE LONG SLEEVE
-this cardigan doesn’t have any weird crochet on it GIANT TITTY RUFFLES
-what a pretty dress LET’S BUILD IN A CHEAP CULTURALLY-APPROPRIATIVE NECKLACE YOU CAN’T REMOVE
-slacks for work WITH PINK PINSTRIPES KAWAII~
-here’s a good t-shirt to layer with PARIS LOVE SPRAYPAINT DETAIL
-some sensible work pants! AVAILABLE IN JEWEL TONES THAT WILL NEVER MATCH ANYTHING ELSE YOU OWN
-Hey. a sedate black sweater. LOL EXCEPT THERE’S A PLAID COLLAR ON IT
-you wanted this dress in SEQUINED LEOPARD PRINT right?
-What a lovely, professional shirt OH BUT IT HAS A SHARKBITE HEM
