for some surprises after all. A Scarlet-eyed Grackle came by and curiously checked the feeders. Would a nest parasite every try laying their eggs in the nest of a bird of prey? Has it ever happened before? Also would any bird ever share nesting space with a bird of prey?
It happens from time to time with nest parasites that do not have a strong preference for targeting a particular species, but the nest parasite generally does not survive as the diet is wrong. Some small songbirds and hummingbirds will build nests within the layers of large eagle nests because the eagles don’t care about such small birds and predators that eat small songbirds won’t go near an eagle nest.
