so in light of Prodigy premiering and all, I thought I’d make a post for people like me who are broke and can’t pay for 15 different streaming services. So.

FIRST OF ALL INSTALL UBLOCK ORIGIN. 

it kills all ads, everywhere including youtube and any streaming sites, including pop-ups, mid-video, everything. (It doesn’t work on facebook and twitch, sadly, in case you’re curious but those are the only exeptions I know of.) Now:

• If you want to watch new episodes of any trek a few hours tops after they air, go to: flixtor dot to slash show slash tvshows slash all (sorry for the weirdness but tumblr will hide my post if it has links) Prodigy is now the most recent show, you can see it on the left of the screen. For other recent shows go to the searchbar and look for whatever. I say recent because flixtor is a very good site, so it’s my first rec, but shows/movies become paid after a few weeks/months.
• For any trek, any time, any episode or movie (as well as any other show or movie ever lol) or just if flixtor doesn’t work go to: www5 dot swatchseries dot ru (end of link). Searchbar in the top right and you’ll find anything you want.
• both sites have english subtitles
• both are streaming sites. I don’t use torrents/downloads because I personally think streaming is safer, so I can’t help you with those.

I absolutely love it when the Star Trek cast directs an episode. The TNG ep where Barclay de-evolves into a spider? Directed by Bev herself. The episode where Ro Laren leaves Starfleet for the Maquis? Directed by Sir Patrick Stewart himself. The slew of eps directed by Levar Burton? Poetic Cinema. And don’t even get me started on those directed by Jonathan Frakes across pretty much all Treks. (And these are all TNG folks - not counting Voyager’s Robbie McNeil directing Voy and Enterprise eps!) Like the first fans of the crew are the crew themselves and that’s actually awesome.

• Unlike our modern society, there is little material or economic gain to be had in accepting promotion.
• The only reasons why people accept promotion in Star Trek are because they desire the prestige and/or extra responsibility that comes with it.

hello fellow trekkies! I wanted to make this because when I first started in the fandom I was very confused by all of the nicknames we have for shows and figured I could help some newer fans with a cheat sheet to make things a bit easier :) im happy to elaborate on anything and if anyone else has stuff to add I may have missed please do!!

I definitely think Nog has an accent. There may even be sounds in Ferengi (assuming that’s what they call their language) that he can’t quite manage, because, as you said, he grew up on the station. His palate might have formed differently! We don’t even know if he is always speaking Ferengi and being translated or if he is speaking Standard? I would assume Quark would insist he learn Ferengi but I feel like he would pick up a lot of Standard. Altho! Maybe the UT just translates everything into Ferengi for him.

WHICH! DOES THE UT HAVE AN ACCENT??? Even if it is programmed to mimic the standard pronunciation of each language, there must be regional differences. Like, I would bet citizens of the nothern continent on Cardassia speak differently than those in the Capital or in the south! Like the U.S. is full of accents, not to mention the rest of Earth. And we know humans in Trek have accents! DOES THE UT HAVE A BRITISH ACCENT WHEN PICARD HEARS IT TRANSLATE OTHER LANGUAGES???? The UT makes my brain hurt.

I feel like the UT could simultaneously create extra accents and dialects and also flatten the variety of language, depending on how much it is used on different planets, ykwim? I wonder if there’s a sort of Starfleet version of Standard. Cadets go home after a year at the Academy and their parents keep asking them to repeat things. I imagine this happens even with human cadets on Earth, but it might even be worse with other species from other planets. Also! I wonder if Wesley had an accent to the ears of his Academy peers?

There’s more I could say, but I keep getting distracted and I’m afraid tumblr will eat this post. So I will end for now.
