okay you know what’s fucking great about this, is, he’s hitting on the guard using the what someone in the 20th century would say. though by the 21st century the tone of the phrase is a lot more ironic than demure, it’s still something that a lot of 20th century characters would say, and the phrase could very well carry on into the 23rd century. we still say shit that’s from the 1700′s.
he’s flirtatiously deflecting the question with an appropriate phrase for the time, in the appropriate role for the situation, except for he either forgot or didn’t give a fuck that in the 20th century homosexuality was not appropriate.

I think one of the reasons why DeForest has such a dramatic expression in the screencaps is that Nimoy was kind of ad-libbing here and caught him off guard. It was a pure OHNOES moment.
