Spock was so 100% right to go into that whale tank they went back there because they needed whales and he was the only one who had the sense to actually speak to a whale about the issue. That was a completely logical and rational minded decision and so what if he disrupted an aquarium tour. Scotty altered the course of technological advancement I think it’s fine if Spock startles a few marine biologists
more insane things that are said in star trek iv: the voyage home because the first post went over well:
- “well, double dumbass on you!”
- “no, i’m from iowa. i only work in outer space.”
- “are you sure you won’t change your mind?” “what’s wrong with the one i have?”
- “do you guys like italian?” “yes” “no” “yes” “no” “yes. i love italian. and so do you.” “yes.”
- “what, he’s just gonna hang around the bushes while we eat?” “it’s his way”
- spock nerve pinching the punk on the bus (and then everybody, including kirk, applauding this choice)
- “name?” “my name?” “no, my name.” “i don’t know your name!”
- spock the whole movie
- “i think he did a little too much lds”
- “what is it, i told you never to call me”
- the enterprise time traveling by slingshotting around the earth really fast (seriously what was that)
- “gracie is pregnant” *tires screeching*
- mccoy growing back a woman’s kidney with a pill
- “$100” “is that a lot?”

“You’re proposing that we go backwards in time, find humpback whales, then bring them forward in time, drop ‘em off and hope to hell they tell this probe what to go do with itself!”
Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy in Star Trek: The Voyage Home (1986) dir. Leonard Nimoy
sketches from the whale movie// the how do you feel? scene? wonderful???? so great i love when you look at him threw the screen and Amanda shows up. 10/10,, the talking to the whales, fantastic, no the hell they are not your whales?? my heart. vulcan boxers? <3 , the tossing into the water and having a swim with everyone and spock looking so comfortable with the closeness of everyone and jim getting super happy anytime spock does anything remotely ‘spock’like?? brilliant.
This film was released 35 years ago today.
between the constant use of the word “whales” in the most series of contexts and with shatner’s brand of overacting, sisko’s dad being introduced as an admiral and antagonist in the next movie, nuclear wessels, spock in a whale tank and no fucks given, a probe that looks like a hunk of cylindrical concrete torn from the ground, spock cursing, and mccoy seducing spock with talk about guesses i’m not sure this movie was real
Something I like about Spock is that he just jumped in the whale enclosure and swam up to the whale and mind melded with her.
