it’s like, on the one hand, the idea of what a potential garashir cameo in picard might look like thrills and inflames my imagination, but on the other hand…i simply do not trust tptb not to botch it beyond redress, like forcing us to buy Happily Married Heterosexual julian, or garak dying, and so i think yknow what…leave my darlings alone to flourish in fanon in the hundreds of “post-canon cardassia” fics, and anyway “little achievements” is pretty much canon?? plus will anything canon offers us come close to the sheer romance that is garashir reuniting and falling in love on cardassia after the war?
Looking at the notes, and yea the best option would be Lower Decks but if they were gonna do it in Picard I think it would be cool if the crew just met up with a different human and cardassian who are both in their 20s-ish and everyone assumes they’re a couple cause they seem really close until they’re just like “um actually we’re siblings” and proceed to explain that their dads are Julian Bashir and Elim Garak and the crew’s just like “oh that’s neat :)”
“Life begins. The dance of division and replication. Imperfect. Finite. Organic life evolves, yearns for perfection. That yearning leads to synthetic life. But organics perceive this perfection as a threat. When they realize their creations do not age, or become sick, or die, they will seek to destroy them. And in so doing, destroy themselves. Beyond the boundaries of time and space, we stand. An alliance of synthetic life. Watching you. Waiting for your signal. Summon us, and we will come. You will have our protection. Your evolution will be their extinction.”STAR TREK: PICARD • 1.09 “Et in Arcadia Ego: Part 1”

I LOVE THEM OKAY??
man no one told me Discovery would be absolutely fucked tho. the wild amount of gore and torture and medical trauma I’ve had to watch so far is unprecedented. I haven’t seen anyone talking about this aspect of the show and it completely blindsided me. I have so many thoughts about this show overall and I don’t really know how to express them yet, but I feel like someone should be saying like… look out, this is pretty hard to watch in a lot of places… basically every episode. Not in a DS9 “horrors of war” kind of way, but in a very modern, overly sensational, game-of-thrones-esque kind of way that is very graphic. I don’t appreciate it and I don’t think it was necessary to tell this story.
Not just Discovery. Star Trek Picard is guilty of the same in the Borg torture scene. I really, really hope that in the spirit of TOS they will do without in Strange New Worlds.
