In the middle of a battle with the Jem’Hadar:

Sisko: Status

O’Brien: Shields failing… they’re penetrating our hull

Garak: Ugh 😩 I wish someone would penetrate my hole

Sisko: 🤨 We’re gonna die and those are your last words?

Jadzia: Same

Nog: I don’t get it 🙃

Worf: No one explain it to him

Nog: 😠 Someone explain it to me!

Julian: Well, Garak was just saying—

Worf: I WILL CAUSE THIS SHIP TO SELF DESTRUCT

Kira: *has already single handedly destroyed the enemy ship and no one has noticed*

marxistgnome:

Quark is just so. Hes this annoying little guy and everyone fucking hates this dumbass little prick but also he is in fact so kind that the very world he comes from reviles him and everyone cares about him so much they will rebuild his bar from scratch because that fucking dickhead is a constant in their lives and is therefore deeply important to them and that concept is so central to ds9, from the weird shitty cardassian beds to the weird and fucked up computer system its about loving something thats imperfect and weird and irritating because its become an intrinsic part of your life and who you are and its so autistic and i so love it.

admiral-derbyblossom:

Being a DS9 fan is this constant search for little pieces of production knowledge that depress the fuck out of us.

“Did you know that Andy and Siddig ship Garak and Bashir???”

I know, it’s depressing because it’s not in the show.

“Did you know that Jadzia and Worf were originally intended to stay married till the end and have kids???”

I know. It’s depressing because it’s not in the show.

“Did you know they were going to make Garak a regular at one point?”

I know. It’s depressing because it’s not in the show.

“Did you know there was a less transphobic version of ‘Lace and Profit’ that was written and directed by Armin Shimmerman because he thought that Trans issues were important and wanted to take the idea of Quark transitioning seriously and not play it for laughs?”

I know. It’s depressing because it’s not in the show.

“Did you know there was a take where Quark and Odo kissed?”

I KNOW. AND ITS DEPRESSING BECAUSE ITS NOT IN THE SHOW!!!!

It’s just like, every day I see another post from an excited fan who finds out that something could have been different that would have made the show mind blowing.

And I think the fact that it’s still so damn good and so damn beloved really speaks to its quality, knowing full well the insurmountable amount of missed opportunities the show had.

DS9 my infinitely flawed and perfect gem. You make me feral.

Deep Space Niners show solidarity in our unanimous use of the wide-bottomed mug.

The wide-bottomed mug is a common element in our many cultures. It’s a mug designed to not tip over and spill its contents. In Bajoran culture, which only recently re-achieved space travel capability, the mugs hearken back to ocean-going ships and areas prone to earthquakes. In Federation, Klingon, and Cardassian culture, the mug calls back to early starships or war vessels, where the gravometric fields were unstable and the ships would often lurch or lose gravity entirely. The high winds on Cardassia’s desert-filled planets also necessitated wide-bottomed vessels; kanar bottles’ wide bases attest to that, although the shape is mostly for decorative purposes now. The Ferengis, too, have a fondness for wide-bottomed mugs. They’ve had advanced spacefaring capabilities for long enough that they’ve lost the memory of vessels that tilt and rock, and their planetary environment is almost depressingly stable, but they’ve used the shape of the mug to sell it to others, and it’s become a feature of Ferengi restaurants and shops as a sort of in-joke—it’s the ugly mug that you can’t fail to sell, because any wavering customer will be convinced when you demonstrate its invulnerability to tipping.

Deep Space Nine is not unstable. We have no real reason to keep using this kind of mug in all our quarters and shops, private and public-owned. But we do it anyway, marking ourselves as part of a distinct whole, not Bajoran, not Federation, certainly not Cardassian or Ferengi, but something that is built of all of them. We, like the Deep Space Nine mug, are an enigma to those who don’t know our purpose: maintaining stability in turbulence.

[IMG Desc: a screenshot of two tweets. The first by user @HereKwzi “Damn, I know I’m late but… Opinion on Jake and Ziyal as a couple?” The second tweet is a reply by user @writergeekrhw “I really wish we’d done that.” END ID]

I really wish they had done this too.

[IMG Desc: Three tweets in a reply thread. First tweet: “Is there a young Garak alpha quadrant spy show in the works?”

Second tweet from @writergeekrhw: “I wish. @paramountplus I am tech avail.”

Third tweet from @/unamccormack: “Praying to the gods of the tellybox.” END ID]

How cool would this be??? I know the idea of a different actor playing Garak is off-putting, but I feel like it has great potential.
