But like why is there a recurring theme of McCoy wanting to throw himself at Spock?

Novelization of Mirror, Mirror; James Blish (Star Trek 03)

“When I came out of the beams, Spocko boy, I was so pleased to see you that I almost kissed you.”

Doctor’s Orders; Diane Duane.

When Spock arrived on the Bridge, McCoy was so utterly glad to see him that he was tempted to jump up and hug him.

Novelization of Star Trek VII; J. M. Dillard.

He had thought he had grieved enough in private to be past suddenly welling up–and he’d promised himself firmly that he would not embarrass the Vulcan by crying in public. But he found himself fighting the urge to fall, weeping, on Spock’s shoulder.

is there more?

OK but this is actually really funny in the context of the show because it’s Spock who throws himself at McCoy in it

no thoughts head empty, just bones convincing spock to try and listen to some old country music with him and spock telling him he doesn’t understand why the doctor finds it so amusing. and he truly doesn’t at first but one day, to his surprise, spock finds himself humming a familiar melody and he decides that maybe country music is not so bad and that he’ll ask bones to spend another evening together listening to some of those songs.

Guys.

What if in Platos Children, instead of that horrible uhura and Kirk kiss scene, the Platonians made Spock and Bones sing “Love Me Like You Do” to each other. Alternating lines.

Just imagine Spock singing “your the only thing I want to touch” awkwardly with mounting horror

And bones singing the line “your the color of my blood”

Just a thought.
