His bond is blindingly bright at that instant, because he had been cut off from Jim for so long, and then the universe simply put Jim at his feet, and Spock is standing there in gentle awe. Hope blooms in him because the light in his cool darkness is, by some miracle, shining once more–and he recalls that this man has always been at the center of miracles. Even with all of space and time between them, in the face of this man he sees a glimpse of a face he knows so well, and like the brush of the wind he feels the passing presence of that familiar soul. A soft push away from longing for the past, and one last propulsion into the future–what a rare gift to begin all over again. It is a last, blessed duty. He feels a shadow of the warmth which comforted him in years past, that spirit whom he was always so ready to follow, and he knows that it was not the universe that brought this man to him. And all the love he’s ever felt comes out in the name: James T. Kirk.
spock: im erasing myself from the narrative

(Boats & Birds by Gregory and The Hawk)
They
out of context and without dialogue it looks like the bridge crew caught kirk staring at spock (again) and kirk tells them to stop but they all keep looking at kirk staring at spock (and chekov specifically looks like he’s gonna dish out some goss)
so, I decided to illustrate this from the original script for ‘the city on the edge of forever’. i’ll never be over it
