A Concept:
Garak has a pet regnar on the station. See, they showed up in the cargo hold one day, and Odo, who identified them as a Cardassian critter, asked Garak if he knew what the hell to do with them. Of course, Garak is enchanted and decides to keep them.
Probably he’s not really allowed to have them, so he told Odo that he shipped them off to Cardassia. He kept one hidden at Bamarren for three years. He can keep one on the station when he has his own quarters and all. He replicates a terrarium for them, but he goes through Quark to acquire actual sand from the Mekar desert. Nothing but the best for Mila Two. (See the regnar he had at Bamarren was named Mila, so this one is Mila Two. Maybe he would name it Prelok or something? but Mila Two is cuter)
When Julian asks if there’s anything he can do while Garak is gone in “Improbable Cause”, Garak asks him to feed Mila Two. Julian is pretty sure Garak isn’t supposed to have this lizard, but he doesn’t tell anyone.
But the thing is Julian doesn’t know regnars can camouflage. He goes to feed Mila Two only to find them gone. He mounts an epic secret search of the entire station, probably recruits Miles, Jadzia, and maybe Nog and Jake to help. None of them find Mila Two.
Finally, Garak returns an emotional wreck. Julian has no idea how to tell him that he lost his pet. Julian is in Garak’s quarters when he returns. He starts apologizing profusely. Garak keeps his face impassive while Julian talks, but over his shoulder, he can see Mila Two in their terrarium. Finally Julian asks his forgiveness and goes quiet. Garak closes the distance between them and kisses Julian. Julian squeaks and then kisses back. After a minute, Garak leads Julian to the terrarium, reaches in, and picks up Mila Two.
Julian stares at the lizard, then up at Garak, and bursts out laughing. He kisses Garak again and decides he will tell Miles and Jadzia in a little while.
