After being told all our lives that minimum wage is for high schoolers trying to get work experience and not for adults with rent and bills, a restaurant near me is learning what it’s like to have a crew of only high school students.

They want to work less hours so they can participate in school activities (games, dances, college prep courses).

The boss says that if they dont pick up more hours, they are fired.

So they all left.

Now the restaurant is closed.

You want lunch at McDs on a weekday?? Good luck getting it from teenagers. They literally aren’t allowed to work. (Obv this varies by state. I can only speak to Michigan.) Minors require more breaks more often. They can’t work overnights or opens or during school hours. They aren’t allowed to operate or handle certain things. Fryer maintenance? Guess we can’t do that anymore. You want your sandwich cut in half? Too fucking bad. Minors aren’t allowed to handle knives.

You know what else minors can’t be? Managers. Do you know what a McDonald’s cannot function without? Managers.

I mean. These places were not designed to be run by teenagers. Adults work fast food. Fast food wouldn’t exist without adults.

when I was in the hospital for my depression I came out to my fellow inmates during the morning circle and everyone was like yeah cool very brave. the next person to talk was a 50 year old woman and she said: ‘I want to come out to.
