i dont know how many of you guys heard this one yet but theres a big eyedrops recall going on right now.

I didn’t know, so I looked into it for us!

Ten different brands of ophthalmic drugs were involved in these cases, the CDC said. But the most common was Ezri Care Artificial Tears, [from parent company named Global Pharma Healthcare] which the Food and Drug Administration warned consumers to stop purchasing last month. … The same was true of another of the company’s products, Delsam Pharma Artificial Eye Ointment”

- 22 March 2023 from NPR

“At this time, CDC and FDA recommend clinicians and patients stop using EzriCare or Delsam Pharma’s Artificial Tears products pending additional guidance from CDC and FDA. … If patients were advised to use EzriCare or Delsam Pharma’s Artificial Tears by their healthcare provider, they should follow up with their healthcare provider for recommendations about alternative treatment options.”

- 21 March 2023 from CDC

The CDC also recommends that you seek medical attention if you used eye drops and show symptoms listed below:

Eye infection symptoms may include:

  • Yellow, green, or clear discharge from the eye
  • Eye pain or discomfort
  • Redness of the eye or eyelid
  • Feeling of something in your eye (foreign body sensation)
  • Increased sensitivity to light
  • Blurry vision

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that 30+ brands of nutrition drinks including but not limited to Ensure, Pediasure, Glucerna, Oatly, and Premier Protein just got recalled for possible contamination with the bacteria that causes botulism, a paralytic toxin with a lethal dose of 1.3 nanograms. If you’ve purchased one of the affected lot numbers please return it to the store to be properly disposed of as a biohazard but do not accept any compensatory gift cards because that can be counted as a settlement if you need to file a lawsuit over for any potential damages caused by this later on. If you have any questions regarding the recall there’s a phone number listed in the article above that you can call, but if you believe you may have ingested toxins then please call your local poison control line. Stay safe

If y'all wouldn’t mind boosting this that would be great. Many disabled people including myself and several of my friends drink these brands to help with diabetes/nutritional definiciencies/etc, and a lot of these brands are also popular choices for senior citizens, young children, and athletes. If someone happens to get a bottle that’s contaminated with botulism (especially if they’re disabled, elderly, or a child) a single sip could potentially kill them

To clarify, when I say “don’t accept compensatory gift cards” I don’t mean you can’t get a refund. You can still get the item refunded but if they say “oh we’re so sorry that this happened, let us give you a $20 gift card as well to make it up to you” turn that gift card down. If later on it turns out that you were affected and you try to sue the company for medical bills and damages the company can claim that you already reached a settlement of $20 with them and you’re no longer able to sue. This is done in some companies both for recalls of dangerous substances and for on-property injuries that the company could be held liable for. Don’t fall for it

okay not sure how to approach this gently but say that, hypothetically, you own some essential oil sprays purchased from a huge department store chain. and there is a recall because they contain deadly disease causing bacteria that has confirmed deaths and has infected and killed who knows how many people because of how rare and difficult to diagnose it is in the united states:

do not throw out the bottles. do not dump the product in the toilet. do not allow the deadly bacteria into the soil, water supply, or landfills. it is an extreme biohazard. do not throw it out. do not throw it out. do not open the bottles.

put on gloves, double bag it tightly in resealable bags, put it in a cardboard box, and give it back to any of the chain’s stores. disinfect everything in the room where it was used while wearing gloves. wash sheets and blankets on hot. consider using bleach.

84140411421 Better Homes and Gardens (BHG) Gem Room Spray Lemon and Mandarin

84140411423 Better Homes and Gardens (BHG) Gem Room Spray Peppermint

84140411424 Better Homes and Gardens (BHG) Gem Room Spray Lime & Eucalyptus

84140411425 Better Homes and Gardens (BHG) Gem Room Spray Sandalwood and Vanilla

these products are being recalled for burkholderia pseudomallei contamination, which causes melioidosis. it can infect pets.

without early treatment, melioidosis caused by the bacteria in these products has a higher than 40% mortality rate. it can easily kill you and will hurt the entire time even if you survive. treatment takes several months and involves intensive intravenous (IV) antibiotics and potentially surgery. there is a high rate of recurrence, long term injury, and disability even with survival. this is not a condition with simple diagnostics or treatment, this is not a painless condition, this is not a condition that is easily survived, and survival involves spending weeks to months in a hospital. in the best case scenario, with immediate diagnosis and treatment, mortality rate is 10%. it can cause growths on organs, septic shock, sudden paralysis, solidification of the lungs, pneumonia, sepsis, joint infection, bone infection, and so much more.

melioidosis can also remain latent for decades after bacteria exposure.

the bacteria infects people through inhalation, cuts in the skin, and ingestion. since this is an air spray, that is very bad. this is a bacteria so deadly that it and related bacteria have been used in war. do not fuck around with this
