Yeah that’s another thing!! Not only is it fucking awesome that they kept that but with Jadzia in, but there were like two or three times where I think Quark was about to kiss Pel while he still thought Pel was a man.

Plus, like. He kisses her after he finds out she’s not a man, but if you think about it from a Ferengi perspective, arguably she’s breaking so many rules around gender that what to us seems like a straight kiss to them probably seems queer in some way, based on their culture (like we know that male homosexual relationships are considered valid by their culture at least in the context of business, see Rule of Acquisition 113, “Always have sex with the boss,” and then there’s all that shit about women not earning profit and everything, so like. To them, a man kissing a woman who is acting like a man and earning profit but still is identifying as a woman probably becomes some version of queer to them by nature of her being a woman). I know it’s a stretch, but when I saw that scene, with Quark still giving Pel a kiss even though he knows the whole situation, and still treating her like a business partner, it just. Kinda didn’t feel straight to me

Like every time Odo catches Quark he draws a little line on a whiteboard in the brig.

But Quark also has one in the bar above the replicator that he also draws lines on.

Odo keeps track in his head and every time he sees a new line appear Quark grins devilishly over the bar and says “can I help you constable?”

Odo runs off and starts an investigation immediately and finds nothing but smirks to himself quietly in his office, impressed: “I’ll get you next time…”

Rom strikes me as typically the oblivious/clueless type but maybe, just maaaaaybe, he can pick up on that.

So new theory- we know Rom changes and developes in DS9. We know at his heart of hearts he’s a kind and caring soul. So, what if all those times he helped Quark with his schemes it wasn’t because he actually thought they’d work or that he had an obligation to his brother. What if it was because he secretly hoped that the criminal activity would lead to Quark and Odo getting together because it meant they’d be thrown together more often. What IF Rom’s plan all along was to help his brother admit/discover his hidden feelings for Odo thus leading him to put more time, effort and energy into that relationship and less into his life of crime. What IF Rom was constantly working to put Quark in Odo’e path in order to convert his brother to keep him on the straight and narrow!?!?!

This is now canon 100 percent and undeniably canon

Tired: Rom is oblivious to Quark and Odo being in love.

Wired: Rom is a manipulative, caring genius that has schemed for years to get them together with the sole purpose of improving his brother’s life.

when i say “i wish ds9′s budget/tv cg at the time was better b/c they could have had odo do so much more” i mostly either mean “gratuitous body horror” or “what if odo turned into a tiny car and repeatedly crashed into quark’s ankles” and not like, anything cool or important to the plot
