Last night my client mentioned how after I came to his house the last time I popped up on his Facebook. He wanted to warn me that even if you turn your location services off (which I always do) it still tracks your location and if you’re in close vicinity with someone you will pop up on their Facebook. So now he knows my real name and info. Thankfully he’s very nice and warned me, just be careful ladies!! You don’t want your info in the wrong hands
Attention non-artists who commission artists: don’t fuckin do this???
Actually had someone do this to me too. Was doing a art stream, it took me over 2 hours to do his inked commission, he got a refund cause ‘it took too long’ that he figured I wasn’t going to do it after I gave him the file.
Don’t do this. Do not.
I’ve had this happen to me with a $350 comic :/ I had already finished it, it was full color, 6 panels and had a full bg in every panel. I was lucky in that I didn’t spend him money yet, but it left me without funds. I’ve also had the above happen to me as well.
Don’t do this shit to artists. We’re people too. Drawing for you is more than a hobby. It’s a job.
Use Paypal Invoices.
I cannot stress this enough. That shit helps A LOT when it comes down to Paypal refunds/disputes.
There’s a description box that let’s you put in what the product is/how long it’ll take/yadda yadda, and then there’s another little memo box that only you and paypal can see where you can say it’s a digital commission and doesn’t require shipping (So Donald Mcfuck can’t say that they never got their commission).
And there’s also a box for your Terms & Conditions where you can say, if you have any conflicts/want a refund - email me, or you can actually tell the user that this is a digital commission and they won’t be getting a hard copy of it.
ARTISTS. PLEASE USE PAYPAL INVOICES. it will SAVE you. And to: the people who do this to artists – Fuck you. It’s okay if you change your mind and want a refund. But freaking TALK to us and let us know what’s going on. Let us WORK with you.
ALSO A HUGE TIP: Invoices paid will automatically set up a shipping notice which, if not fulfilled, can land you in SERIOUS hot water with PayPal. Since a lot of artists don’t print and ship the commissions, this is a huge problem.
However! Totally manageable. Just go to your PayPal, scroll down to find Seller Preferences
>> Shipping Preferences
>> Display Ship Button. Make sure all the boxes are unchecked. Then you’re all set!
There has been a virus malware that is using your skype and Facebook to send a link to the Chinese domain Baidu[.]com. This link is NOT being sent by the person but by the virus.
Please DO NOT CLICK THE LINK!
It will redirect you to another site that IS malware and it will attack all your files on your computer. If you get someone sending you a link to the domain of baidu DO NOT OPEN IT. Disregard the message and tell your friend that they have a virus on their computer.
If you do get this virus you will need to remove the malware via a virus protection program. Once it’s removed, change all your passwords and make sure all your files are backed up and not corrupted.
Share this warning so people know that baidu[.]com is a malware virus and it is spreading quickly. And as precaution, don’t open links with urls that you are not familiar with.
Staff did a really stupid and stealthy hotfix to the messaging system, where the new IM noises are incredibly loud, annoying screaming, laughing, ‘creepy’ noises in “””Halloween Spirit”””
if you don’t want to be harassed by these god-awful panic inducing noises then just go to your Settings >
Dashboard tab >
and make sure that your messaging sounds are turned OFF, to the LEFT
y’all should probably spread this post to avoid causing anyone panic attacks from random, loud BWAHAHAHAs.
STOP REBLOGGING THIS FUCKING GARBAGE POST. IT IS 100% FUCKING BULLSHIT AND CAN AND MOST DEFINITELY WILL LITERALLY KILL.
DO YOU NOT SEE WARNING LABELS THAT SAY “DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING”? THEY AREN’T FUCKING AROUND. YOU CAN FUCKING BURN THEIR ESOPHAGUS BY CAUSING VOMITING, CAUSE CHOKING, DROWNING, OR MAKE IT WORSE!
AGAIN DO NOT FORCE ANYTHING DOWN ANYONE’S THROAT. THEY. CAN. DROWN.
IF SOMEONE IS LOSING CONCIOUSNESS ALL THE CHIT CHAT IN THE WORLD WILL NOT PREVENT IT AT THAT POINT THEY ARE IN SERIOUS DANGER.
“Buuut i don’t wanna take them to the hospital!!!”
WELL SUNSHINE GLAD YOU’D RATHER HAVE A DEAD FRIEND THAN A LIVING ONE BUT YOU’RE IN LUCK
CALL FUCKING POISON CONTROL. THEY ARE NOT THE COPS. THEY WILL HELP YOU.
AND IF THEY SAY GO TO THE FUCKING HOSPITAL YOU GO TO THE FUCKING HOSPITAL. NO EXCUSES. 0. NONE.
I have seen this shit cross my dash SO MANY TIMES so PLEASE fucking reblog this and prevent some well meaning idiot from accidentally killing someone they love!
this is a PSA from memebot’s dadmom because i know some of you are in the US and this is your first time voting so you might not know this but
YOU CAN’T VOTE ONLINE
THERE ARE NO APPS FOR VOTING
some states allow early or mail in voting BUT NO STATES LET YOU VOTE ONLINE.
if you see stuff about that IT IS PEOPLE TRYING TO OBSTRUCT VOTING
they are TRYING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU. they are hoping that if they spread misinformation about the election they can keep the left-leaning, internet-aware generation from the polls
THERE IS A LONG HISTORY OF DIRTY TRICKS LIKE THIS BEING USED TO ATTEMPT TO KEEP PEOPLE FROM VOTING. in previous elections we’ve seen lists of mostly Black people being targeted for calls saying to vote on the wrong day, stuff like that.
TELL YOUR FRIENDS!!
Some states allow you to REGISTER to vote online, but to actually vote you HAVE TO go to your voting place and VOTE IN PERSON
After what happened yesterday, I’ve decided to teach you the single most important thing you will ever learn about dealing with autistic people, especially under stress:
A meltdown is a defensive response, not an aggression.
Meltdowns happen because we are in pain - either the direct sensory pain of too much light or too loud noise or terrible textures or what have you, or the emotional pain of just being overwhelmed by so much input we can’t handle it, of being told were horrible burdens who can’t love, etc.
Meltdowns are born of pain.
In particular, they’re what happens when we can’t escape that pain. Y’all know about the fight-or-flight response? Well… that’s what a meltdown is. And all of those stories of autistic people destroying things or hurting themselves or lashing out at people? That’s what happens when “flight” is no longer an option. That only leaves “fight.”
We’re trying to defend ourselves from things that are hurting us, and you won’t let us. You stand between us and an escape from pain. That’s what makes us lash out, as surely as if you cornered an animal and poked it with a stick.
So how do you prevent this from happening? Simple. Find out what’s causing us pain, and give us an escape from it. Too much noise? Give us earplugs or a quiet place. Too-bright lights? Maybe we need sunglasses or a darkroom. Draining social expectations? Let us be alone for a bit.
Just let us escape the pain. That’s all we need.
(The implication of this, of course, is that people who think autistic people are inclined to violence? Are people who hurt us and keep us in pain. They’re abusers. This is something that has held up literally every time I’ve heard someone talk about how terrible and violent we are, and then describe their interactions with us. Every. Single. Time.)
May I add that if you don’t personally know the person who’s having the meltdown, or even if you do and you haven’t worked out another plan ahead of time, here’s meltdown intervention 101:
Don’t
Do not touch them unless you’ve specifically worked out a plan with them beforehand
Do not stand close to or crowd them, especially if they are on the floor or in a corner
Do not prevent them from stimming unless they’re hurting others or seriously hurting themself, even if they’re disturbing others
Do not yell at them, I can’t think of a single situation where this is a good idea
Do not try to move or relocate them unless they are in immediate physical danger or you’ve worked out a plan beforehand
Do not force them to speak or communicate, these take a lot of energy and can be very stressful or impossible, even for someone who’s normally verbal
Do
If you can, try to get other people to leave the room while the person calms down.
Move slowly, the person having the meltdown is already in fight-or-flight mode.
Speak clearly and use simple sentences, most autistic people have poor auditory processing all the time, and trying to understand what you’re telling us during a meltdown can be difficult or impossible.
Try to eliminate overstimulating things in the environment like clocks with second hands, cathode-ray tvs (fucking pain boxes), flashing lights, or strong smells.
Remember that many autistic people also have trauma. Some common triggers (things you should avoid like the plague) include being restrained (don’t grab any part of their body) and phrases like “quiet hands”
Be patient and wait for them to calm down
It may take more than an hour for an autistic person to calm down from a meltdown. During this time, give them the option to go to a quieter and less-stimulating space. Offer alternate methods of communication, like allowing them to type on a phone, write on a pad, or nod their head in response to questions. Don’t force them to do anything. Meltdowns are exhausting and many people are unable to do things they normally find easy.
If you are allistic and any of this seems wrong to you, I would like to politely invite you to shut your quiznak. Yes, especially if you are an “””Autism expert”””
PSA for those on the Coast: BE SAFE, and BE SMART!
This one is going to be a gnarly one. It’s not expected to make landfall, but ride the coast all the way up. This means it probably won’t reduce in strength like most storms do. Mother Nature is a terrifying force and sometimes we cannot stand against her.
If you are in Evacuation Zones please heed warnings and the advice of Emergency Responders. If demanded to evacuate, please comply. Things can be replaced, you can’t.
The National Guard has been mobilized, but not evacuating when you should puts their lives at risk as well as yours.
To those outside the danger zones, but still in the path- Hunker down. Make sure you have:
Dry Food
Candles
Flashlights
Batteries
window/door seals
pull in all outside decor/furniture not cemented down (they’ll become projectiles).
Your Bathtub filled with water in case they shut off the city water
FIrst Aid supplies, benedryl, epipen, bandages, antiseptic, etc
Duct Tape (You never know what this stuff is good for)
emergency radio
An emergency plan should you get separated from family (keep in mind cell towers may be out)
For more information on how to get through this thing, take a look at FEMA’s website—it’s packed with resources, including tools through which you can help first responders get to those in need. Stay safe down there, Tumblr, and be sure to check in with your loved ones.
If you’re looking for ways to help Haiti out, check out our earlier post, and also add Sow a Seed to that list. They focus on orphans in the Caribbean, and they’re currently directing their efforts to hurricane relief.
Please, please include the cautions and contradictions with an herb when you recommend it.
Herbs are drugs. Some of them should not be used by pregnant or nursing women (kava kava comes to mind).
Valerian is not a substitute for narcotic sleep aids. Valerian is a narcotic sleep aid.
St. John’s wort messes up the action of oral contraceptives.
Marshmallow root should not be mixed with other medicines or taken at the same time as it can interfere with their action.
Catnip (used for sleep problems) can make already heavy menstrual periods worse.
Etc, etc, etc. Please remember you are recommending medicines and medicines can have effects other than the ones you want.
As a pharmacy student…
THIS. THIS ALL RIGHT HERE.
Herbs are Drugs, just in a less pure/less effective form. They can and will interact with things, and can/will cause side effects like any medication will.
Let your doctors know if you’re on any herbals. They count!
