I often talk about reality checking and going along with it when helping someone deal with delusions, but I felt as if I didn’t really make it clear to what I meant when I said it.

Recently I saw a post similar to “how to sneakily give your delusional friend a reality check when they told you not to” and honestly, that’ll just make us lose trust for you. Because we can tell when you do that.

i think its worth saying that “adding to the delusion/trying to send them deeper into the delusion” isnt always as malicious as it sounds, “adding to the delusion” can mean attempting to comfort them but inadvertently creating more layers of it (ie “youll be safe if you keep your door shut” “they cant hurt you because im protecting you”, etc).

even if your intentions are good and it temporarily makes them feel safer, youre just adding another layer to it, and it will just become more difficult for them to overcome later on

listen i don’t know what the hell y’all are doing to your nibs that they wear down so fast you need to put spaghetti in your stylus but please don’t do that, it could break off inside the pen and mess your pen up, and it can also scratch your cintiq screen/tablet surface and that’s a lot more expensive to fix than buying a new nib

there are extra replacement nibs in your Wacom pen stand if you bought your tablet new. go find them it’s basically a lifetime supply in there

failing that, nib replacements are like $6 for a pack of 10 on amazon if you can’t afford that i’ll fucking buy you one just don’t use spaghetti aiight

Do not put your bunny on it’s back.

image

It may seem ‘‘relaxed’‘ or ‘‘sleeping’‘, but this is incredibly unhealthy.

They are  in a state of tonic immobility and are not relaxed, hypnotized, or insensitive to pain.

Scientists believe that this is a defense mechanism brought on when a rabbit has already been ‘caught’ by a predator. If the rabbit appears dead, the predator may release its grip momentarily and allows the rabbit to escape. Research has shown that rabbits in this state show an increased heart and respiratory rate with elevated plasma corticosterone levels, indicative of fear-induced stress.

The stress caused by this position can be fatal if rabbits are already suffering from respiratory and cardiovascular disease, and the sudden transition to from passive and active escape can be unpredictable and instantaneous which can result in significant injury to the rabbit. Sudden noise or painful stimuli can interrupt the trance and there is considerable variation in individual susceptibility to the technique

Your rabbit will display the following behaviors if it is tranced:

  • Closed eyes
  • Shallow fast breathing
  • Relaxed limbs

It’s honestly sickening to see people buying bunnies for their cuteness and softness, but not educating themselves on how to actually take care of it. If you keep trancing your bunny on purpose or bathing it, you deserve to have your pets taken away from you.

image

Reblogging because Easter is coming and there are always people who blindly buy a bunny for their kids on Easter without educating themselves on how to take care of it. This is just another example on what NOT to do.

Same thing with chickens. It’s not cute. they aren’t relaxed. Stop doing this to rabbits and chickens.

13 Reasons Why

lesbiansandpuns:

Don’t watch it. Do not watch this fucked up mess of a show. Listen, I’ve been working in suicide prevention for almost six years, and I grew up in an area that had epidemics of teen suicides. The area is actually so well known that the show-writers and producers met with leading experts in the area on the ways that the media contributes to youth suicides - and then did almost everything they were warned not to do, even going so far as to actually show the suicide on-screen. Many of the experts that they’ve spoken with are expressing grave disappointment with how the show proceeded despite their advice.

If you’re suicidal, if you’re depressed, if you self-harm, and/or if you have any trauma associated with that, please do not watch this show. It was incredibly irresponsibly handled and puts people in very real danger.

How to report bots that reblog your posts and inject their own links

nicoleartist:

luthienartist:

You’re an artist having a wonderful day posting your art to Tumblr dot com. You don’t always get a ton of attention, but that’s okay. But then one day somebody reblogs one of your posts…

You’re super excited! Someone appreciates your hard work. Then you see the profile picture, and it’s something like this…

image

[Screenshot of a Tumblr notification that shows an icon that looks suspiciously like a white girl in a bikini showing off her butt, though it’s so small it’s hard to tell. “axpgthglewut reblogged your photo.”]

You’re suspicious at this point, but mildly optimistic. Maybe someone likes both T&A and your Steven Universe fan art. Then you go to their blog and…

image

[Screenshot of my drawing of Lapis Lazuli. My original description was replaced with the text “you want to fool around?” and a link that leads to God knows where.]

It’s happened. Again. For some bizarre reason a p/orn bot is using your completely safe for work art to get click throughs to something that’s definetly not safe for work.

You desperately want at least your attribution back, but since Tumblr is so horrifically set up you’re very sure there’s no way to do that.

Except you can!

Tumblr allows you to report copyright violations which includes removing your description and injecting their own link. But how to do this?

Step 1: Report them

Go to that human icon, click it to go to the drop down, and select “Report”.

image

Step 2: Select “Community Violation”

This behavior is explicitly against the Tumblr terms of service so that’s where it goes.

image

Step 3: Select “Misuse of your identity or work”

image

Step 4: Select “Misattribution or non-attribution”

image

Step 5: Select “yes”, this is your work that’s being misattributed.

image

Step 6: Select “yes”, you posted it to Tumblr.

image

Step 7: Select “Someone reblogged it and injected a link to their own blog.”

image

Step 8: Put in the link to your original post, the link to their reblog, and your email. Then submit!

You can get it the link to the reblog without going to their blog directly by going to the dash view of the blog, hovering over the top right corner, right clicking and selecting “copy link address.

image

While all of us here on this trash website enjoy picking on staff, in my experience they take care of this kind of thing relatively quickly (usually 2-3 days).

I hope this has helped at least some of you, and remember: only you can stop bot reblogs. [insert gif of Smokey the Bear here]

Thank you so much these kind of links are smothered all over my art posts and I didn’t think there was anything I could do about it

Seeing as World Autism Awareness Acceptance Day is coming up on the 2nd of April here’s some reminders for allistics (non-autistic people)!

  • Do not support Autism Speaks, they treat autism like a disease and a burden and talk over actual autistic people when we disagree with them. Instead consider supporting organisations run by autistic people, such as the Autistic Self Advocacy Network and the Autism Women’s Network!
  • Support #RedInstead not #LightItUpBlue. (#LightItUpBlue was started by Autism Speaks while #RedInstead was started by autistic people as an alternative).
  • Don’t use the puzzle piece to represent autism (again, Autism Speaks does this - implies autistic people are a “puzzle” needing to be solved). Many autistic people prefer to use the rainbow-coloured infinity symbol!
  • Don’t tell autistic people to use “person first language” (i.e. “person with autism” as opposed to “autistic person”). Let them decide how they wish to describe themselves!
  • Autism has most likely always existed, it just wasn’t recognised until the early 20th century. Also no, autism is not caused by vaccines.
  • Remember that autistic children become autistic adults. Autism is stereotyped as being a children’s disability and resources are often tailored exclusively to autistic children and/or their families, completely ignoring autistic adults.
  • The terms “low functioning” and “high functioning” are generally considered to be outdated in addition to being problematic in that they are often used to deny autistic people resources/self-agency (i.e. “you’re too high functioning to need help!” “you’re too low functioning to know what’s best for yourself!”). Autism is a wide spectrum which doesn’t have just a “high functioning” and “low functioning” end but rather several different areas which we may or may not struggle with (e.g. sensory processing, social interaction/communication, organisational skills, etc) which can even differ depending on our mood, stress levels, etc.
  • Please don’t use “autism”/”autistic” as an insult (or r*tard/r*tarded).
  • Please don’t tell us how we “don’t look autistic”. That’s not a compliment.
  • Please be patient with autistic people if we’re having trouble understanding what you mean or having difficulty accomplishing certain tasks. We’re trying our best!
  • Ask an autistic person you know about their special interest(s)!
  • Listen to autistic people when we talk about our experiences!

Many thanks if you reblog this post! Also, any autistic people please feel free to add to this post! (or point out if I’ve made any mistakes) ❤️

Important things to know about respecting people with disabilities:

chronically-illustrated:

bpd-turntechgodhead:

dissolutionandcreation:

💜 Labels can be empowering. It’s valid if a disabled person embraces their labels

💙 “Crazy” is a slur against people with a mental illness

💜 Jokes like “he’s so bipolar!” “I totally have multiple personalities!” “I’m guess I’m OCD!” aren’t funny and are actually really harmful for people living with mental illness

💙 It’s not “crippling” anxiety, it’s “debilitating” anxiety–crippled is a word only physically disabled people can reclaim

💜 Don’t kneel down when talking to someone in a wheelchair unless they ask you to

💙 Don’t infantilize people with disabilities

💜 Mentally ill people are rarely violent. It’s much more likely for them to be victims instead of perpetrators of violence

💙 If you’re not disabled, please speak up for those of us who are. Help us change the culture so we can be respected as the valid and incredible human beings we are

💜 There’s no such thing as “narcissistic abuse” or “borderline abuse.” Someone can be abusive and have NPD or BPD but the abuse wasn’t because they have a mental illness

Have a disability? Add your requests for abled people in your reblog!

💙 Not all borderlines are abusive so don’t act afraid of someone the moment they say they have BPD

💜 People with depression aren’t whiney or crybabies or overreacting, and they can’t just decide to be happy

💙 People with anxiety disorders aren’t freaks for being unable to function at times

💜 Don’t stare, point, or talk about someone if there crying, shaking, stimming, and/or panicking

Also, don’t tell people with a physical or mental illness that they can just use “mind over matter” to combat their symptoms. You have no idea how much “mind over matter” it takes just to get out of bed every day. It is okay for chronically ill people to say they can’t do certain things and it’s not okay to make them feel like they have to force themselves to do something that will harm them.

PTSD: A Layman’s Guide

shadowcharmed:

Let’s talk a little about PTSD. Since this will be a theme on this blog, I want to dispel some misconceptions and myths. Hopefully this will help people understand such a complex disorder.

1) PTSD not what you think. It is not what the media thinks. You can have it and not know it.

2) Trauma is not what you think it is. Trauma is not what the media thinks it is. Trauma does not have to be a death; it does not have to be explosions; it does not have to be cancer; it does not have to be a near death experience, and it does not have to be witnessing a horrific thing such as gang rape. Trauma can be someone yelling at you; trauma can be someone ignoring you; trauma can be intense humiliation; trauma can be deep rejection, and trauma can be horrible betrayal. Trauma is that which wounds us so profoundly that we are permanently changed creatures.

3) There are two types of PTSD: Complex PTSD and PTSD. C-PTSD results from multiple traumas or multiple forms of abuse. PTSD is typically centered around just one event. C-PTSD is an accumulation.

4) You can get PTSD (or C-PTSD) from emotional abuse. This is possible. There are studies backing this up. Just because you weren’t “abused as badly” or “it was just words,” it doesn’t mean that you aren’t at risk or possibly suffer from PTSD. You can get it without being physically hurt.

5) Flashbacks don’t really work the way most people think they do. Every flashback is different. Sometimes you see things and sometimes you hear things. Sometimes a traumatic memory is played on a loop in your head, and the thoughts and feelings consume you for days. Sometimes you just feel like you’re emotionally re-experiencing the traumatic event. A lot of survivors of traumatic events don’t recognize those feelings as a flashback and therefore do not process upsetting events very well.

6) One of the most prominent symptoms of PTSD is avoidance. This can manifest as avoiding a single person or location. This can also be doing things like constantly distracting yourself so you don’t have to dwell on very upsetting memories or developing unhealthy habits such as constant drinking. This can lead to things like agoraphobia or other anxiety disorders.

7) PTSD develops because you experienced a very real threat to your safety and your brain wants to protect you from experiencing that again. It’s trying to remind you so you can avoid being in harm’s way again. This is your body’s attempt to save you. Don’t resent it too much. It’s trying to help.

8) People with PTSD startle easily and are hyper-vigilant in seemingly benign situations. This is because, as stated above, your brain is trying to protect you. Don’t get too upset or frustrated with yourself when you experience this. Respect your body. It wants to help.

9) Respect your trauma. Respect. Your. Trauma. So many people feel guilty bringing up something “benign” because “someone has it worse.” That is a normal reaction. People - and the media - tend to minimize things like emotional abuse or neglect. Those have scientifically been proven to be very traumatic. Respect your trauma. Just because someone has had a shittier situation, it doesn’t mean that yours isn’t shitty as well. Respect that. Know that your pain is real and your trauma is real. This is how healing from PTSD begins.

10) You don’t have to be a soldier to have PTSD.

If you constantly think about a traumatic encounter, constantly /avoid/ thinking about that encounter, have triggers such as seeing someone or going to a certain location, have anxiety or panic attacks when thinking about the event/person, feel unsafe all the time, or are easily startled, please see a mental health professional. You might have more than “just” anxiety. Your quality of life can be improved with treatment and medication. Respect your body. Respect your trauma. Respect your healing. Respect your worth.
