Aquilegia chrysantha is in the butter cup family Ranunculaceae. Commonly known as golden columbine, it is native to the southwest United States and Mexico. Golden columbine is an herbaceous perennial that most often grows in riparian areas, such as along stream banks and rivers, and near waterfalls. Golden columbine grows up to 3 feet tall and produces bright yellow flowers that bloom in the late spring and early summer. Outside of its native range, golden columbine is popularly planted ornamentally to add a vibrant display of color to the garden. There are different varieties available that vary in flower size and color of the sepals and petals.
