Alright tumblr,I said as soon as I got polls I knew what my first would be. I asked this once on twitter and only THREE brave ppl voted. Let’s do better here.
So, let’s go:
I love the fuckeries of OFMD season 1. Exactly what is and isn’t a fuckery is never precisely defined, but I’m going to define it as any time the characters accomplish a stated goal using trickery or deception. Ironically, this means that the two main fuckeries of episode 6 are disqualified–both go sideways and don’t seem to really accomplish what they set out to do. That leaves….

The Lighthouse
Stark Revelations
Standard Duel Rules

Where are Tuvix, Threshold, and any episode with Mudd?!
Don’t worry, this is not an attack, just taking the chance to explain myself:
My point in making this post, despite the many similar ones going around, is that it… annoys me, how we tend to latch onto “silly” episodes (Threshold, Move Along Home, Spock’s Brain) as The Worst Star Trek Writing, when these shows have more genuinely offensive episodes than I could fit into a 10 option poll.
Tuvix is a solid example of Janeway’s confidence in her own command (and making a decision that’s challenged by other characters), Threshold is a genuinely insightful Tom Paris episode conceived by a man who does not understand how evolution works. Harry Mudd gets away with his sexism a bit more by virtue of being the villain, and to my memory his episodes don’t revolve around the fun sci fi concepts of (check notes) our protagonist getting reprimanded by the main character for telling a transgender slave that he deserves to think of himself as a person (Cogenitor), a planet populated exclusively by Black people whose king is presented as a savage because he forces his wife to fight the white security officer he wants to own instead (Code of Honour), or a character from the alien race portrayed almost exclusively both by Black actors and by white actors in blackface being denied and punished for an important cultural practice and then brainwashed without consent - something presented as a good option with no lasting repercussions for anyone (Sons of Mogh).
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for making fun of Brannon Braga’s thoughts on evolution too! It’s just that if I were to rank this franchise’s crimes, I feel like dodgy biology doesn’t belong alongside the episodes that (often literally) alienate a large chunk of viewers
