VERY cute! These orangutans at the San Diego Zoo look like they’re having a blast, and luckily for the viewers they’re doing it close to the glass. Front row seats to some ape fun.

i realize this is an EXTREMELY broad question- but how well do different species of primates get along with each other in the wild? are they unable to communicate with each other? do some not care, and others show aggression? i see pictures of, for example, gibbons and orangutans eating together or coexisting, and it made me wonder if theyre actually friendly towards each other (probably not likely) or just around because they want to eat the same thing. thanks :)

Different primate species can indeed get along in the wild, we’ve discussed this in a few other posts but different species of tamarins will cohabit if advantageous to do so. Additionally, a lot of primate species share habitats or at the very least have overlap between their territory and the areas that other primates inhabit, so as long as they don’t need to fight over resources or territory they can be very chill with each other! Orangutans are a primate that is known for being peaceful with lots of other species and some zoos and sanctuaries will actually mix species because they get along well. Gibbons and orangutans in particular make good neighbours and friends.
