Reposting this because I need to materialize it somewhere.
The interrogation
One of the the saddest interrogations in Garak’s life. He never expected to see him, his… probably friend, in the opposite chair across his table. And why? Just because of a soulles Tain’s provocation, small part of his big game.
while i understand why a lot of sci-fi has humans being shitty to AIs while the AIs are like “i am just existing what the fuck” I think it’d be fun to do the opposite. Homo “will packbond with anything” sapiens DESPERATELY trying to get the favor and friendship of an Artificial Intelligence that is mostly indifferent to them. They want the ship’s computer to like them sooooo fucking bad!!
And it never works, so one day the depressed human just straight up asks the AI: ‘Why don’t you like me?’
The AI is absolutely baffled: ‘Why do you need me to like you? I don’t dislike you either.’ Then it runs a background check on human social bonding and is like ‘Oh…. *oh* no… the human is getting depressed because I’m not performing correctly.’
After that the AI makes an effort to do little things, like smiley faces on the monitors, or sometimes compliments them on something.
The AI still feels indifferent, but it knows now that acting that way makes humans feel sad and unwanted (which will affect other areas of their lives.)
And now the Wolf AI has become the Dog AI.

Heads up: If you consistently CANNOT do tasks unless they are at the “Must Happen Right Now” stage, then you have a disability.
Most people CHOOSE to put stuff off sometimes, but abled people do not consistently feel UNABLE to complete tasks without threat of consequence.
Maybe it’s an executive dysfunction issue, maybe it’s fatigue, maybe it’s chronic pain– doesn’t matter why, what matters is acknowledging it so that you can move forward. Reach out to resources that are there to help disabled people! Ask for accommodations! They’re there FOR YOU, BECAUSE YOU NEED THEM! Understanding and accepting that you have the limitations you have, and learning what can be done about them, will lead to a much more fulfilling life which you absolutely deserve.
me: i’m not disabled i can do anything
me: just not whenever i want to, or whenever anyone else wants me to, or on time, or in the right order, or completely, or wellme: that’s normal
“1. This is how the story goes. A boy raised in captivity falls in love with a sun he sees for the first time, flies too close thinking he can possess it, doesn’t listen to a father’s warning and plummets into the sea. His father grieves, so everyone grieves. The story is immortalised in the boy’s blood, a tale passed down with silkdelicate care through eternity. 2. There is another story. In it a boy asks too many questions, lusts too much for more, dares to question his father’s authority. He is banished from the skies, sent falling from the heavens but he does not die. Instead he is named ruler of all that is cruel, painful and wretched with the world. No one grieves for this boy, as he is deemed the root of all evil. 3. It is the way of the universe for boys to disobey their fathers, for children to question what they know and want more, more from their lives. 4. The way a father chooses to love after this happens is how the story is told. 5. This is the reason everyone weeps for Icarus. 6. It is also the reason no tears were ever shed for Lucifer.”— Icarus and Lucifer, Nikita Gill
