Ohio is the generic, store brand version of America. All of the calories but none of the flavor. Everything that's true about "America" as a whole is especially true about Ohio, but without any of the specific regional qualities that give it any sort of identity. It is a textureless, colorless, amorphous mass of a state. It is the regional equivalent of a Walmart parking lot. It is a frozen TV dinner while watching The Office. It is a suburban house with beige vinyl siding. It is what people are imagining when they say "White people have no culture." It is the control group for the American Experiment. The baseline against which all other regions are judged. Hope that helps.

Breaking: Ohio Gov. John Kasich signs 20-week abortion ban into law; vetoes “heartbeat bill”

  • Last week, two separate abortion restrictions cleared the Ohio legislature and moved toward Gov. John Kasich’s desk.
  • The one that dominated headlines was the “heartbeat bill,” it would have made it illegal for Ohio women to terminate a pregnancy after six weeks.
  • On Tuesday, Kasich signed the other one, the 20-week abortion ban, according to the Associated Press.
  • Despite its being unconstitutional under Roe v. Wade, the 20-week ban is more likely to hold up in court than the heartbeat bill.
  • Laws similar to the heartbeat bill have been struck down in North Dakota and Arkansas.
  • But abortion restrictions like those put forth in the 20-week ban stand in a number of states. Read more

These dickweeds are *really* into the Constitution, right until it gets in the way of their ideology.

You need to know about Ohio’s new abortion bill that would ban abortion at six weeks, before many women even know they’re pregnant

North Dakota and Arkansas passed similar bills that were later struck down as incompatible with Roe v. Wade; the Supreme Court declined to hear any appeals, sending the signal that an Ohio law would meet the same fate. But Ohio’s conservative lawmakers see an opening after Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election last month.

ALSO: Laws limiting abortion tend to dramatically effect women in poverty because they don’t have the income or ability to travel to another state for the procedure.

When a low-income mother is able to plan her pregnancies, she is much more likely to be able to provide for her baby. When she cannot get an abortion, if that is her choice, she is three times more likely to descend into and remain in poverty.

In addition, this issue was covered by John Oliver in February and it worth the watch.
