LOUIS DE POINTE DU LAC (Jacob Anderson)
Interview with the Vampire | 1.02
“Well, there’s good news and bad news.”
“I think I could use some good news at this point.”
“The test results came back, and you’re not cursed.”
“… could have fooled me.”
”It turns out that the entire complex is flooded with some sort of exotic high-energy particle that doesn’t show up on our regular scans. Now that we know what we’re looking at, we’re confident we can find a treatment.”
“So the whole place is radioactive?“
“That’s the size of it, yes.”
“Why? Is it some sort of defence mechanism?”
“As near as we can figure, this isn’t a repository for proscribed religious artifacts as we originally thought. It’s actually a dumping facility for hazardous materials.”
“And not a word of this in any of the literally thousands of inscriptions you’ve analysed.“
“Well, see, that’s the funny part. It turns out that Third Dynasty script does have a rune for ‘radiation”, but all this time we’ve been translating it as ‘dishonour’.”
Contrapasso (a DS9 drabble)
[Written for the drabble prompt “Curse.” Also on AO3.]

In his brief stint on Bajor, Garak learned to ignore Bajoran curses, spat at him by Resistance detainees, muttered by old codgers who thought he couldn’t hear, or painted on the walls of his lodgings. Despite all their imprecations invoking the Prophets, Garak’s scales didn’t rot, he didn’t burn in the Fire Caves, nor did he fatally choke on a fishbone. Clearly the Prophets weren’t listening.
But when he received notice of his exile, he remembered the prylar who said to him gravely, sadly: “May the Prophets someday show you what it is to have your home taken from you.”
Okay but in all honesty?
“Silence, or you will be held in contempt of this court.” “I have nothing BUT COMTEMPT for this court!” has got to be the greatest exchange of word in human history and it came from the 1986 Transformers Movie.
op i hope you don’t mind me adding, but “you, who are without mercy, now plead for it?” is also absolutely fucking metal and also comes from the 1986 Transformers movie
It’s been pointed out before that this line from one of the Transformers comics is one of the rawest threats in the English language:
“I’ve heard it said that we only gain wisdom through suffering
And tonight, I intend to make you very wise.”
“You wear fine things well…”
