NAACP issues first-ever travel advisory for a state — and it’s Missouri
The NAACP’s travel advisory for Missouri may be the first of its kind issued by the civil rights group, but follows a recent trend nationally.
“Missouri became the first because of recent legislation making discrimination lawsuits harder to win, and in response to longtime racial disparities in traffic enforcement and a spate of incidents cited as examples of harm coming to minority residents and visitors, say state NAACP leaders.
“Those incidents included racial slurs against black students at the University of Missouri and the death earlier this year of 28-year-old Tory Sanders, a black man from Tennessee who took a wrong turn while traveling and died in a southeast Missouri jail even though he hadn’t been accused of a crime.
“How do you come to Missouri, run out of gas and find yourself dead in a jail cell when you haven’t broken any laws?” asked Rod Chapel, the president of the Missouri NAACP.
“You have violations of civil rights that are happening to people. They’re being pulled over because of their skin color, they’re being beaten up or killed,” Chapel said. “We are hearing complaints at a rate we haven’t heard before.”Read the full piece here

In September 2014, Missouri lawmakers decided women must wait 72 hours to “reflect on their decision” before they can get an abortion. ‘Cause, ya know, an abortion is one of those spur-of-the-moment decisions like ordering pay-per-view or having another glass of wine. And what about cases of rape, incest, or medical complications? Well, they have to wait 72 hours too.
On its own, this is pretty upsetting. But when you consider how easy it is to get one of those shiny metal things used to take people’s lives? That’s when the blinding rage sets in.
“As police moved up West Florissant, many residents said they were trapped. The neighborhood consists of a series of cul-de-sacs with one main road — West Florissant, now blocked by police — stretching between them.

I have seen tumblr do some incredible things, and I’m hoping maybe it can come my way too. I have never needed to make one of these posts before, but now I actually need too. Don’t worry, I’m not asking for money or donations!
I have an incredible opportunity to go to school in Ireland, I can go to school full time and get my education. Unfortunately I have three beautiful felines I cannot take with me. Ireland has some weird pet laws, and I’ve tried to find some way around it. When I found out I couldn’t take them I was so grief stricken, they are my babies. I love them so fucking much. But I have waited for this opportunity a very long time and the time is finally right.
I have tried looking for months now and I am running out of time, I have even looked for cat boarding houses but I simply cannot afford it. I live in Illinois in the North Chicagoland area and I’d like to stay within the state but I can travel to my neighboring States, like Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan and that other one south of us. They have been nurtured and spayed and they have their rabies shots.
PLEASE, if anyone knows anyone who is willing to take them temporarily for a year or so, I would greatly appreciate it! Reblog, spread the word, I truly need a helping hand right about now! Please message me or send an ask! This truly breaks my heart I even have to write this. Please don’t let me abandon them to a shelter. :(
I unfortunately have to make this post again. It breaks my heart to have to do this. The person who took my cats off my hands did not inform his brother that he had adopted three cats, and unfortunately he could not take them. So I am back to square one. I cannot leave until these lovely felines have a home and I had to postpone my move date.
I understand three full grown kitties are not everyone’s cup of tea but I assure you these guys are so friendly! They are lovely animals who need a home. I promise they will make you smile. Dodge loves attention and will happily sit on your lap. Girly is soft and loves belly rubs. Draco is the fluffiest guy, a bit grumpy, but keeps to himself mostly.
If not all three, at least the two siblings. Girly and Dodge are brother and sister, and I do not have the heart to break them up. Draco can manage on his own. Please! Help a cat lover out. :(
