Kirk sits in a chair with two armed officers around him. One of them is holding his phaser, they lean into him and ask, “Is that a uniform of some kind?”
Kirk looks at himself and gestures to his shirt, “This little thing? Just something I slipped on.” And looks up at the officer and smiles.
The next image is from a book, it says, “"They look the same,” Jim answered shortly. He’d hoped McCoy would cheer him up; instead, he seemed to be bringing the doctor down with him. He podded at McCoy’s clothes. “Dressed for shore leave already, I see.” For the past several weeks the doctor had expressed his eagerness for an extended leave to anyone who would listen.
McCoy looked down at himself and spread his hands demurely. “What, this old thing? Just practicing. I wanted to see what it felt like to wear civvies again.
"Brings out the color of your eyes. Looks good with the silver in your hair too.” Jim took a swallow rather than a sip of his drink. Cognac, and a very good one—it went down too easily. Kirk breathed in the aftertaste of fire and vanilla and apricot.“
guys remember tho in star trek 2009 how bones and kirk met each other at their literal lowest points in their respective lives and they latched onto each other. theyve been there for the lowest and highest moments. they both picked each other up and healed in the others hands. guys remember how they met in the movie then three years later theyre best friends. remember how kirk met bones and gave him that nickname and how bones is always bones to kirk and how no one else gets a nickname like that but bones does. how if it was probably anyone wlse boned wouldnt let the nickname stay but he does because its from kirk. remember how bones couldnt leave kirk behind. how kirk has been left behind by almost everyone in his life at that point but bones couldnt do that so he risked medical malpractice and helped kirk sneak onto the ship. remember how kirk literally died like he fucking died and bones went against god and science and how bones went against his medical oath (i must not play at god) to bring kirk back to life. remember how kirk doesnt like his birthday but lets bones celebrate it with him lets bones give him a birthday because he deserve it despite the history behind the day. remember how much history these two have that we dont get to see but its there theyve known each other so long and seen the best and worst in the other and stayed and chose the other. god.
Many people are of the opinion that Jim just wore Bones down into being friends by bothering him every day at the Academy, and I think that’s a valid theory

I’m not talking about “smuggling his emotional support maniac onto a battle-ready starship in flagrant defiance of rules, regulations, and basic professionalism,” because he very obviously could not have not done THAT.
