I’m getting really tired of the wise serene pacifist trope in fiction. Every committed pacifist, prison abolitionist, antiwar activist, etc I’ve ever met in real life has been vibrating with compressed rage at all times. Do you know what it’s like to believe deeply in your heart that doing harm to others is wrong and the goal of society should be to alleviate suffering for all people and live in the United States of America? IT’S NOT FUN. Show Us The Pissed-Off Pacifists.
Dude there might be a word for the emotion that is forged when someone’s deep abiding love and compassion for all people and living things welds itself into decades of built-up foaming fury at how those people been treated their whole life by those in power to create a sort of alloyed super-commitment to a set of ethical principles but i promise you “tranquility” is not that fucking word
Ohhhhhhhhh well foremost my heart makes that sound XD
Kelas and Elim. My beloveds. My absolute hearts.
I love them together. I think they balance well. Their story is so heart-wrenching and beautiful! Kelas is literally like the sweetest person but also the sort of kind that is strong and forged through fire. They are kind on purpose. And they see the best in Elim. They believe in Elim when he doesn’t believe in himself 😭😭 And you know I think Elim gives Kelas hope. Elim IS Kelas’ Cardassia. Bloody and painful but beautiful and deeply good, able to change, to grow, to transform and learn from past sins. Elim decides every day to turn his back on his upbringing and to do the best for Cardassia and Kelas loves him for it. They both hold that deep love for Cardassia and her people. In Crimson Shadow, Elim calls Kelas his “conscience”. They really are a rock that Elim leans on and learns from. Elim is shamelessly attracted to kindness and competence and Kelas has both in spades.
Elim gives Kelas hope and love and a sanctuary, I think, in a way. Someone to come home to, someone to love, actively, on purpose. And someone to give them love in return, to remind them they are precious, and there is love and pleasure in the world.
Kelas gives Elim steadiness. A foundation. A sounding board. Someone he trusts to pull back on the reigns. Elim does not always trust himself, but he trusts Kelas. Kelas is kind and forgiving. Kelas is a good, a goal, to strive for. Kelas loves and forgives and accepts. Kelas also pushes back. They call Elim out and don’t let him lie. They have infinite patience but also will not pull punches. It is beautiful to see and it is so good for Elim to have that. He needs that.
The first way Kelas knew Elim was in the worst way. Elim could never truly lie to them because they saw underneath everything. And still they fell in love. Still they gave Elim a chance! A second chance as he had been offered so few times before.
Their love is just so goddam beautiful, okay?? Please read ASIT and Crimson Shadow. I still need to read Enigma Tales.

listen I have thoughts about parmak. bc like. imagine you’re the doctor of the head of the obsidian order. you did nothing, but all the same he sends an agent to interrogate and torture you bc he suspects you of plotting. and this guy comes. but he just sits there and stares at you for hours until you can’t take it anymore bc his eyes are just so Intense and so you admit to something you did when younger that is completely irrelevant but how would you know that?? you don’t know why he’s there. you just want it to end. then you’re sent to a labour camp bc you still did Crimes Against The State, however irrelevant they were. you come back eventually. you start practising medicine again. some years later the dominion war and the fire happens. you head an emergency med unit. there aren’t enough people. you need volunteers. guess what? the guy who interrogated you years ago shows up! but he’s apparently a hero of the rebellion and a tailor now and does want to help. so you allow it. eventually you forgive him. you even become good friends. flash forward to some years later, and the same guy is the castellan of the entire cardassian union and you’re living with him in his castellan residence, practically married. insane
Idk if anyone will actually do it, but I am so curious how everyone pronounces “Kelas”. It took me a while to settle on a pronunciation, so I would love to hear yours!
Reblog this with an audio clip of you saying “Kelas Parmak,” or, if you would rather, a phonetic representation.
most folk have heard me say their name on my podfics, but personally I go with KEH-las PARH-mak
I love that so far we are mostly in agreement!

OTP: I mean, obviously. (Also Julian. Them’s my endgame OT3 for sure. <3)
NOTP: Kelas/Sadness. ;A; I just want him to be safe and happy and loved always. (Fortunately so does Garak so this works out nicely.)
BROTP: I would really love to see him interact with some other DS9 people like. Odo and Quark at least could tell him so many fun/embarrassing/enlightening Garak Tidbits. Also Dax, feel like they’re one of those very Wise Old Souls he’d get on great with.
MEHTP: I don’t actually know of any other Parmak-Involving Ships lmao, and any of his Content is so blessed to me I doubt I’m capable of being Meh about any of it!
Rarepair: That would also require more ships, and I just really want more books. Quite badly. Una McCormack’s brilliant brain and wordcraftery has gifted us with so much goodness and mine is an unquenchable literary thirst. And also a gay one.
