Doctor things about Julian Bashir:
- Having an absolutely IRON stomach. Nothing ever grossed him out because he spends half of his life knee deep in fluids
- SUPER comfortable discussing bodily activities in public. He’s HAPPY to discuss bowel movements over cocktails. His loved ones wish he was less comfortable with this.
- Goes from sleeping to waking VERY quickly because he gets midnight calls a lot
- Regularly eats entire meals standing at the counter because he did it so much during training he can’t undo it
- Being constantly asked by friends about little health problems during social events
- Being physically incapable of watching medical dramas/holos because they’re so inaccurate
- Being hard core anti-medical kink. So many partners are like “can I get a check up? ☺️😉😉” and he’s like “no. That is my literal day job and it is simply not remotely sexy to me.”
- Kinda weird and protective over his hands
I just think it would be fun to really let Julian lean into the lifestyle things a bit more. Feel free to add!
I wrote a bit of a pwp sequel to Light and Heat! I hope you enjoy!

when kasidy yates says “what happened to julian he used to never shut up” and sisko says “i like him better this way” and she says “hey. that’s mean” and he says “i was just kidding” and she says “no. you weren’t.” and she’s disappointed in him. and she’s right.
Gotta ask: How do you think Julian would connect with Jake in siskoshir context? I think that could be very cute and powerful and sweet dynamic to explore?
absolutely! i love the episode where jake and julian are stranded in that war torn hospital; julian treats jake as a mature, fully formed individual. he never patronizes jake, but he’s still protective of him in a subtle, quiet way. i think for siskoshir it would depend on when they got together - but in any scenario i think jake and julian would have a beautiful bond. @nerdy-flower and i came up with the headcanon that jake and julian would become huge crossword puzzle nerds together and compete in sector wide contests. i also think they would bond over their uncertainty/wariness/concern for ben’s relationship with the prophets and how that relationship sometimes impacts his health. basically, there’s lots of avenues to explore!
Jake and Julian are such a good dynamic!! idk if i’ve mentioned this before or just put it in a wip but there’s a beta canon story that shows that Bashir is the one who suggested writing to Jake as a way to cope with the difficult stuff life throws at him - I’m just gonna put a quote here bc I love that idea so much (the story takes place shortly after Emissary on Bajor, Ben is trapped underground and Jake is understandably worried)
Bashir stopped and turned, offering him a small smile. “Yes, I know.” Then, as if an idea had occurred to him, the doctor opened his medical kit and took out a padd. He held it out to Jake. “I brought this along with me on this trip because I thought I might have some time to work on a medical paper. Why don’t you take it?”
“What for?” Jake asked.
“For you to write your feelings down,” answered Bashir. “Maybe it will help you to sort things out.” At Jake’s skeptical expression, Bashir added, “You don’t have to use it. Just keep it in case you change your mind.”
Jake accepted the padd, murmuring an insincere “thanks.” The doctor nodded and walked away.
Alone again, Jake resumed his vigil. His thoughts wandered aimlessly, taking him through a tangle of conflicting emotions. After a few minutes, he looked down at the padd in his hand and slowly, hesitantly at first, he began to write. From ST DS9: Prophecy and Change
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this has my ENTIRE heart bless you! this also makes me think of the siskos and neurodivergence and how maybe julian recognized a bit of himself in jake and encouraged him to write down his feelings because maybe it helped him in the past ;A;
An underrated character dynamic that should have existed between Jake and Julian is like…. Jake is a writer, so he would TOTALLY use Julian as a source on medical things in books like
Jake: so let’s say, hypothetically, a Vulcan got shot in the abdomen…
Julian, laughing slightly: okay, so what would happen is…. (Long rambling description)
Okay, but seriously? Julian Bashir would be the BEST resource for writers. He’d start with an explanation and then devolve into first- and second-hand accounts and anecdotes. He’d tell you about the way things smell. He’d go way overboard into the minutia and give so much background that you’d space out halfway through and wind up coming up with three new plot points before he stopped talking.
And the guy’s sense of boundaries is such that he would absolutely be willing to proofread the interspecies erotica with detailed notes about what can’t be used as lube and what isn’t anatomically possible.
If the Federation ever stopped being a moneyless utopia, he could make bank on hiring out his services.
Alright y’all, here’s one of the most unintentionally funny scenes in DS9.
In “Family Business” Bashir and O’Brien are trying to pick the lock on Quark’s to retrieve their dartboard, all the while Odo and Sisko are making comments like “This is one of Rom’s special security locks. I’ve never seen anything so convoluted” and “Hmm, a tripartite microsealing mechanism. That’s going to take a while to get through”.
So those two breaking into the bar and Odo and Sisko being cool with it is amusing enough, but fast forward to season seven’s “Extreme Measures”…
It’s the middle of the night, the bar is closed and O’Brien walks in on Bashir playing darts. O’Brien asks how he got in and Bashir simply replies “The lock’s not that complex”. So back in season three he was just standing there watching O’Brien struggle when he could’ve done it in no time.
That genetically engineered bastard.
It gets funnier when you consider how competitive their relationship was, and that Julian Bashir, best friend and partner in crime to Miles O’Brien, was silently laughing at him the entire time.
He could have brushed off lockpicking skills as some random interest from years back, related to his Bond fantasies too, but instead let his best struggle.
O’Brien Must Suffer.
The fact that the author chose that particular gif… I am really hopeful for some good queer rep in this new book series!
For anyone curious, Double or Nothing, out Sept 2022, is an official James Bond book. It features three new Double-Os. 009 is named Sid Bashir. The author very clearly knows exactly what she is doing with that reference.
my DS9 conspiracy theory is, despite having almost zero scenes together, Julian and Kira are really good friends. My evidence? All the fucking cold opens in season 7 of them just hanging out at Quark’s.
Dukat: “Oh, please! You wouldn’t hurt a fly!”
Julian: “You’re right; because a fly is an innocent creature that never knowingly did anything to anybody. You, however, I would maim.”
