Julian wants to reassure you that it’s okay if you don’t really know what your gender is. Discovering yourself is a process, and having figured out your pronouns is a huge step, and he’s glad that you have that and that they make you feel better. He’s happy to use your pronouns, and he’ll support you as you figure yourself out. No matter how you end up identifying, or not identifying (if you find that a gray area of “unidentified” or “questioning” feels best, that’s okay, too!) he’s here for you.

Bashir knows you’re struggling right now, but your disability or mental illness isn’t your fault. You didn’t do anything to put yourself in this situation. He’s here for you when you need someone, and he hopes you’re learning to adapt and manage your problems.

It’s weird when I watch an episode thats pointed to by some as an example of Julian being a bad person or used to justify writing him as one and he’s. Not. (Not to say they don’t exist, but it’s interesting when this incogruity happens)

I rewatched “if wishes were horses” and like. Julian is being sexually harassed by fake Jadzia. The first scene she shows up in is almost an assault scene. She starts touching and feeling on him when he’s asleep. When he wakes up, he’s nervous and trying to get away from her until she asks why he’s resisting (the obvious answer of “you started macking on him without his consent” not occurring to the writers because it’s the 90s). Like, yes it’s uncomfortable for Dax and she’s not in the wrong for that, but Julian has no control over fake Jadzia. If he did, she wouldn’t have been touching him when he was trying to get away from her. Julian is not speaking to or touching Jadzia. An alien looked at his dreams and decided to make it everyone’s problem.

Even the scene at the beginning (which I’ll grant, was probably written to be somewhat genuine “I’ve been friendzoned!!!”) is not acted in a manner that supports Julian being shitty outside of the fact that he’s still trying to ask her out after being told no. His exasperation when Jadzia says she likes him as a friend is playful and theatrical, not angry. He’s being dramatic as a form of banter.

I think my favorite part about Julian Bashir as a character is that he is kind of annoying and cringe. and I wish they hadn’t made this seem like a bad trait. Because I remember being in middle school and always being the weird kid and getting weird looks and always constantly worrying about whether or not people were annoyed by me. and I see so much of that in Julian. and I just love that part of him because I relate to it so much. I wish the writers had treated it as just a natural part of him, something that was ok and acceptable and even a good thing. something that didn’t need to change, that it’s okay if he was a bit weird. Like I think they should have let him stay weird and they should not have made it seem like him being weird or annoying was a fault. I don’t know it just makes me kind of sad. cuz i remember being the weird kid and then being forced to grow up, hiding that part of me away and becoming withdrawn to appear more palatable to everyone else, trying to seem more normal and socially acceptable… and I don’t know man It was just a lot of pain for me to grow up being the weird kid and have that part of me scorned. and so to see that happening to a fictional character just really hurts. cuz it shows me that there’s just this kind of universal dislike and annoyance with characters/people who are “too talkative” or “too energetic” or “weird.” I don’t really know where I’m going with all of this exactly. I just think that we need to embrace the characters that are a little bit weird or “too talkative” “too energetic” etc because somewhere out there is a kid who is “too talkative” or “too energetic” or “weird” and I want that kid to know that they don’t have to tone down who they are.

Found a ridiculous bit of Garashir stuff in the DS9 novel β€œHeart of the Warrior”, which takes place mid-season 4.

Garak wants Julian to wear a very revealing outfit for him.

Later on, Julian comes up with a plan to stop a diplomatic incident by having Garak impersonate another Cardassian. As repayment, Garak wants him to wear that outfit.

And it sounds like Julian did.

Why? xD
