“I still get letters of thanks from people who had a slightly tougher time in life than the ideal American Dream unraveling, which is sort of that myth. People who didn’t see America that way, didn’t feel their lives follow that path. So I got those people. A lot of gay guys, young gay guys who were clearly vulnerable at that time, because AIDS was sort of at its apotheosis at that time, so they were not comfortable in their own skin. People who weren’t comfortable in their own skin, people who didn’t feel like the quarterback on the team, or the cheerleader, they were the people that really liked Bashir.”

God I love that moment of genuine shock and surprise on Garak’s face after telling the first of his three stories in The Wire. He’s astonished that Julian is not only still there, but still softly and calmly insisting that he will help. Garak truly thought he knew Bashir enough to get him to leave- but joke’s on you! He has now activated immovable object Julian Bashir mode. I think Garak didn’t even know Julian could be like this, he underestimated him. Anyway- a super tiny moment but well acted even under all of that makeup and prosthetics.

Treat yourself the way you know Julian would treat you. Give yourself the same time and space, compassion and kindness you would get from him. Take this innate knowledge of this character’s compassion that I know we all have and turn it on yourself. Legitimize self-compassion and self-kindness against the negativity of your own mind. I love you people 💗

do you ever thinking about how literally everyone takes julian bashir’s infodumping as bragging or lecturing except Garak, who infodumps back

or how Julian never has to guess if Garak is being sarcastic or encoding a double meaning, because EVERYTHING has double meaning

and how if Garak finds that he doesn’t like Julian’s tone, he immediately tells him he doesn’t, rather than silently rolling his eyes or getting quietly irritable

and how Julian and Garak show their affection and respect for each other’s cultures and ideas by. debating them

and how when either of them DOES hurt or insult the other, they draw back and ask how they insulted so they don’t do it again? Garak does it about Julian’s age, Julian does it about Cardassia

and how Odo and Julian often work very well together even though they don’t really LIKE one another because they’re both very obstinate and linear in their thoughts - but Odo and Garak meet each other regularly for breakfast later on and are friends

i just. hhhhhhhh

i have a lot of feelings about how autistic humans respond so WELL to VULCAN communication and to CARDASSIAN communication

and its because allistic humans think cardassians and vulcans are obscure

but they’re NOT obscure. vulcans state things very bluntly, and cardassians state things very floridly, but they share in common a bluntness and directness in their communication that allistic humans often take as rude even when it’s stated it ISN’T

thinking about how Iloja of Prim, the poet, was exiled on Vulcan 👀 and feeling… Feelings

top five bashir moments (from the first three seasons we’ve seen) counting down from five. honorable mention to The Gang Tries Desperately To Win The Carrington Award

5 when he’s like but garak would have told me if he was a cardassian spy! we’ve been having lunch together for a year!

4 every time he pops out from behind a wall while o’brien is moping about his troubled marriage is and like hullo chief! fancy a game of racquetball!

3 when he meets a patient who can’t walk in the station’s artificial gravity and a) immediately starts violating medical ethics by hitting on her b) invents an irreversible treatment to fix this without seeming to ever consider that she would probably want to be able to walk on her home planet

2 when he invents a new surgical procedure in like ten minutes and uses it to replace half of kira’s boyfriend’s brain

1 when he and o’brien are stranded on a desert planet and o’brien’s thinking about how he’s never going to see his wife and daughter again and bashir is at first having a great time and then starts talking about how he secretly judges o’brien for being lame and monogamous and then tells him about his french ballet dancer ex-girlfriend’s sexy feet

(bonus offscreen moment: when he tried to hit on jadzia by giving her his DIARIES FROM MEDICAL SCHOOL and saying they might help her understand him better, and then she doesn’t read then until she thinks he died)
