Random Star Trek Headcanon:
Jim didn’t have a lot of friends growing up (or even as an adult) so after him and Bones became friends (about six months in) he made the Doctor take a picture with him. McCoy never really gave it any thought until he saw a framed ( An Actual framed) photo of the two in the Captain’s quarters. Later one of Kirk and Spock appeared then one of all of them together. McCoy never says anything about it but smiles whenever a new picture of the command crew pops up.

Incorrect Star Trek Quotes
James T. Kirk and Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy in Star Trek Beyond (2016) dir. Justin Lin
That’s the spirit, Bones.
There are close to zero sympathetic Admirals in TOS and on the one hand, fuck the space exploration-military complex, but on the other hand, can you even imagine being James T. Kirk’s boss. The man is a menace, constantly just fucking around and never finding out. And he only hires other menaces, with his freaky hybrid cat-boy boyfriend and his near-feral doctor best friend, who can do things like bring back the dead but won’t other than Jim because he hates every living person. Every single time Kirk’s name came up in your briefings you’d have to take 10 calming breaths. If Kirk showed up in your office you’d try to jump out a window
