Awesome and also I got confused for a second bc I thought that said Left Hand Of Darkness and I was sitting here like. I know Le Guin liked Worf but he was DEFINITELY not in that book

and like, watsonist, of fucking course she is because you can be gay in the future and jadzia is pansexual as fuck as also genderqueer as fuck and like she’s been a man and a woman and a bunch of stuff in between so of course this gay ferengi doesn’t even trip

but doyalist, aka rick berman should be set on fire for his crimes against me personally, I’m really fucking pleased the script kept that in. like there’s room for a reading of trans man pel and there’s room for genderqueer pel and there’s room for straight up female pel dressing male because of sexism and those are all valid imo even if the romance aspect is only in there because pel is “actually” a woman

Yeah that’s another thing!! Not only is it fucking awesome that they kept that but with Jadzia in, but there were like two or three times where I think Quark was about to kiss Pel while he still thought Pel was a man.

Plus, like. He kisses her after he finds out she’s not a man, but if you think about it from a Ferengi perspective, arguably she’s breaking so many rules around gender that what to us seems like a straight kiss to them probably seems queer in some way, based on their culture (like we know that male homosexual relationships are considered valid by their culture at least in the context of business, see Rule of Acquisition 113, “Always have sex with the boss,” and then there’s all that shit about women not earning profit and everything, so like. To them, a man kissing a woman who is acting like a man and earning profit but still is identifying as a woman probably becomes some version of queer to them by nature of her being a woman). I know it’s a stretch, but when I saw that scene, with Quark still giving Pel a kiss even though he knows the whole situation, and still treating her like a business partner, it just. Kinda didn’t feel straight to me
