I see a lot of ‘cis’ women say they wish they were androgynous in the way men were or they wish they were pretty in the way men were. This is your sign to go try to do that. You may find you enjoy being an androgynous woman. You may find you no longer identify as a woman. You may find you don’t like androgyny. You will not know until you try. Cut your hair if you’ve always wanted to but have been afraid to. Shop in the men’s section if you’ve been too nervous to. Wear clothing with an androgynous silhouette. Experiment with binding, take baby steps with compression bras if you want. Wear unisex scents. Live life. Try things you want to try. A lot of cis women do not understand the joys of mens pants and mens deodorant. I think everyone should try both of those things.
okay but can we talk about the fact that if the Benny Russell who Sisko saw through the eyes of in “Far Beyond the Stars” is the same Benny Russell who wrote “The Kingdom of Elysian”
then the Benny Russell who got fired from a sci fi magazine for writing a short story about a black space station commander ended up becoming a published fantasy novelist
who finally got to portray a person of color in a position of authority and respect, if King Ridley’s illustration is anything to go by
why is it so extremely 😳 when julian is talking to someone he doesn’t like/a villain/etc and distorts his usual Soft into something vaguely terrifying
god I am OBSESSED with this. And his voice in general. Maybe I’m being overly dramatic about just a Thing Humans Do which is I suppose somewhat true but I feel like Julian (Sid?) modulates his voice constantly depending on the situation and who he’s talking to and it’s very noticeable. The interesting thing is that a couple of comments Sid has made lead me to suspect that he very much knew and did it very deliberately which is just *chef’s kiss* perfect. Acting Choices. He’s got the thing he does with his voice when he’s trying to comfort people that’s like the most reassuring sound you’ve ever heard and the other thing he does with his voice which makes him absolutely terrifying somehow. And he almost never raises his voice at ANYONE except like Garak once and a corrupt admiral once and somehow those aren’t nearly Julian at his scariest. Julian at his scariest is just as soft-spoken as usual but he somehow also sounds like he’s plotting a murder
I truly do think that the first two minutes of Past Prologue is the sluttiest of all of Star Trek and I’m aware of the statement that is. Like I know that in TOS Spock and Kirk had sex on screen but they were already DATING and also it was only happening bc of the “fuck or die” circumstances. Garak and Bashir didn’t know eachother and that’s why it’s the sluttiest. Garak is NOT under the influence of pon farr he just goes over and puts his hands on Bashir’s shoulders,,,,, so firmly,,,,, Bashir is a stranger to him at this point. This was not even flirting! Flirting is like you’re so handsome do you want to grab a drink soon! Garak comes over in his damn watermelon suit like hi my names Garak, you’re a smart young man, should you want a quickie my place is the tailor shop and then he LEAVES. that’s the scene they filmed
I love the attitude of ‘they’re a little confused but they got the spirit’ actually like someone trying to educate themselves or learn something and even though they’re wrong, they’re still trying and people supporting that effort
Thinking about how Star Trek TNG introduced the Ferengi to be little more than a joke about how being greedy is cringe and Deep Space 9 took that and developed Ferengi culture further through several Ferengi main characters with the youngest of them seeing his father struggle under Ferengi society, seeing his father being unable to live up to his full genius potential because the need to devote all his time to earning profit precludes any higher ambition, and the son deciding he doesn’t want that, deciding he wants a better life for himself, and going against his family’s wishes by joining Starfleet with zero profit motive, elevating the discussion to genuine criticism of what it’s like to live under the pressure of capitalism
