How to update Tumblr Safe Search on iOS
So with the new update, you may want to double check your options both on mobile and on your desktop. Tumblr’s iOS settings are a little weird since they’re not actually in the app but in your phone’s core settings. So here’s how to update your settings, complete with visual guide (above).
- Go into your phone’s Settings (the grey icon that looks like a bunch of nested gears).
- Scroll waaay to the bottom where the applications are. They’re in alphabetical order, so Tumblr is going to be towards the bottom of that list. When you find it, go ahead and click (tap) it.
- In Tumblr’s settings it’ll have options for what Tumblr is able to access: Photos, Notifications, Background App Refresh, and Cellular Data. It will also have a “Tumblr Settings” section where Safe Mode is the only option. Click Safe Mode.
- Safe Mode has three different options: Hide all sensitive content, Just hide search results (meaning your dash won’t be filtered but searches will), or Don’t hide anything. Chose which option best suits you!
And that’s it!
Bonus Tip: To preserve your phone’s battery life (and if you’re on limited data), turn off Background App Refresh. This works for a ton of different applications, not just Tumblr. You’ll have to go into the app personally to refresh the notifications, but it keeps it from constantly checking in the background which runs your battery down and your data usage up. But also, in the Tumblr app itself there’s an option for Data-saving mode that you can turn on (In the app click the person icon in the bottom right hand corner, then the gear in the top right hand corner. Then Global Settings at the top, and Data saving mode about midway down – it’ll just make it so gifs don’t move until you tap them while on mobile data but hey it can help!)
