Transgender writer and activist Tyler Ford went on an important tweetstorm on Friday, calling out a systemic problem within the fashion industry: the misgendering of transgender and gender nonconforming models — especially when you’re honoring them. Ford’s final tweet addresses just how often this happens.

many many many indigenous cultures have historically included more than two genders and to say that those genders do not exist is to say that those cultural traditions are invalid, and that only the imperialist gender binary is correct. which is racism.
On Wednesday, Merriam-Webster caught up to speed with two words people have been using to describe their gender identity for at least a decade, adding “cisgender” and “genderqueer” to its unabridged dictionary. Among the 1,400 words, you’ve probably seen a few of them across Tumblr for a while now

@ all the conservative men freaking out about Target’s bathroom policy… stop pretending like your anger is out of concern for the safety of women. Until you start fighting just as hard for women to feel safe on public transportation, to feel safe traveling alone on the street at night, to feel safe reporting actual assault cases—stop. Stop pretending this is about helping women “feel safe”. It’s not.
They are always talking about the ability for men to sneak into the bathrooms and assault woman with the new laws as if they don’t already sneak into woman only places and attack women on a regular. They hate trans woman, see trans woman as a men and want to openly discriminate against them.
Make laws that put sexual predators behind bars. Make laws to get rid of the statute of limitations on rape cases. Make laws that fine police forces for holding rape cases and not sending them to different labs when there is a backlog for years! Put predators behind bars! Stop forcing trans people into danger and stop with this “welfare of women” thing when cis men are the ones putting woman in danger!
Its not ‘born in the wrong body’ its ‘assigned the wrong gender at birth’ - lets try shifting the blame off the literally-seconds-old baby and onto the society with the outdated views of gender instead, mkay friendo
I haven’t seen a lot of posts that shed some positivity for non-binary Muslims who wear the hijab – I personally sometimes feel it’s frustrating that people see hijabi non-binary people as “female” just because the hijab is an obligation for women. My hijab does not define my gender; only my obligation to my God and my religion!
Shoutout to all non-binary hijabi Muslims out there; you are valid and Allah loves you, insya-Allah!

If gender is innate, if girls and boys are just naturally different and naturally like different things, want different things, show different behaviors, why do we have to put so much effort, so much work into separating them?
If gender was innate it wouldn't have to be indoctrinated into anyone. Everyone would naturally pick what they want to pick, and every girl would pick the same thing while every boy would pick the opposite. We would never have to tell any little girl or little boy anywhere, “this is not for you, it’s for boys/girls”.
I cannot believe people will insist that genitals = gender while still being so quick to assign genders to things including but not limited to robots, candy, umbrellas and geological features. Why are you more willing to call an M&M female than you are a trans woman?
