That Empok Nor post making me wonder why Julian would be there and now I’m just picturing Miles being like “Julian, I’m heading over to Empok Nor to get parts, and we have to take Garak along. Could you come with as a buffer? Please?”
Garak would absolutely realize that’s why Julian is there, and he would pick at Miles even worse on the trip over.

like that ep was mostly abt o’brien and his conflict w garak but imagine. local lizard guy tries to kill the love of his life due to forces beyond his control. julian is just maybe a little too into it
honestly bc like
esp bc it comes after miles’ thing with Julian and the jem'hadar, miles naturally and obviously assumes that this is going to be a repeat of this. he starts quietly assuring julian, multiple times, that he knows he cares about garak, but that if they have to kill him, it’s what has to be done
and julian keeps saying nothing, which miles takes as typical avoidance
bc what miles doesn’t know is that julian and garak have “trying to kill each other” already built into their relationship. its well-trodden ground for them
and when garak comes at nog, julian doesn’t hesitate whatsoever to take him on as hard as he dares
and the wonderful thing about that is that coming out of that situation, julian and garak can be perfectly good friends again. Julian doesn’t take it personally when garak tries to kill him, and garak absolutely does take it personally when he sees the reverse, bc it means julian is treating the threat he poses seriously
but MILES doesn’t get their fucking twisted relationship. all MILES sees is julian turning colder than ice on a man who’s supposedly his best friend outside of miles himself, and given how nice julian is usually, that’s kind of fucking horrifying, especially when julian AND garak try to play it off as no big deal or just how things are
it’s one thing for garak to be cardassian and weird - julian’s meant to be normal! (ish)
and just saying but :) assuming we don’t get a pon farr situation where garak’s aggression is channelled into arousal and sexual aggression instead
what if Julian’s genetic enhancement makes him susceptible to, or semi-susceptible, to the same properties in the gel that affected garak?

thinking of how in general they didn’t have the budget to have proper astronaut suits on 90s trek until big budget baby first contact had a few made. so obviously they were gracious enough to lend one (1) of the suits to ds9 for one (1) episode and who do they put in the space suit?! fucking garak. the character that canonically has claustrophobia. the character that is played by an actor who already gets claustrophobic from just being in his alien make up djdjdkksskj they really said fuck andy with that one
