I’m worried because people are laughing off Trump’s threats to sue the women accusing him of sexual assault. Suing someone still means the other party usually has to show up to defend themselves. It’s a public, costly process that spineless, rich, abusive assholes can undertake for fun with the best lawyers in the world.

There is no way any woman would’ve been able to come forward against him without being prepared to pay an enormous cost in terms of their livelihood, their reputation, and their own sanity. And that’s exactly what’s happening now. He’s trying to bully them into silence.

So it’s not a hilarious ridiculous premise. This is an intimidation tactic from a craven, small man used to either getting what he wamts, or taking it via bastardization of the legal system or by brute force.

“If we lose the Senate, do you know who becomes chairman of the Senate budget committee?,” Ryan said, according to the Nation. “A guy named Bernie Sanders. Ever heard of him? That’s what we’re dealing with here if we lose control of the Senate.”

Ryan’s hit on Sanders backfired, badly. Citing Ryan’s comments in a fundraising blast, Sanders was able to raise just under $2 million in two days for about a dozen Democratic Senate and House candidates — furthering his chances of actually becoming budget committee chair.

Moreover, as John Nichols notes in the Nation, Sanders really does stand to dramatically increase his clout if the Democrats retake the Senate. Nichols writes: Sanders could also end up chairing the powerful Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, which he could use to advance many of the proposals (for affordable college, empowering unions, and investing in public-health programs) that made his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination so popular.

The final list of committee assignments will be influenced by the choices of senior senators, such as Washington’s Patty Murray. “There’s lots of individual choices ahead, of people who are senior to Bernie,” says Senator Charles Schumer of New York, who is set to replace retiring Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid of Nevada. Yet Schumer says of Sanders, “He will chair a significant committee if we win the majority.’’

Just had some very nice Democrat volunteers come to the door to talk about the candidates. I told them I would be, of course, voting blue all the way. Then they asked about donations and volunteering, and I felt bad saying no. I made up some shit about not having time and stuff, because I didn’t want to say ‘I’d love to help, but I’m poor. I have phone anxiety. And I can’t drive myself.“

one of the twitters for an ad campaign my company ran is on this and today the CEO came up, grin on his face and newspaper spread in his hand, saying to everyone who would listen, “have you seen this?! what can we do with this?! can we get the biggest screen in times square and put this on it for a week?” he was so proud.
