Easter is coming up! And it’s a terrible time for pet store bunnies!
Rabbits are marketed as “easy”, short-lived, starter pets, especially during the Easter holidays, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth! A healthy, well cared for bunny can live just as long as the average cat or dog- 10-12 years!
What’s more, they have more complex needs than a cat or a dog. Rabbits are prey animals and do not behave or show affection in the same way as predators like cats and dogs; they don’t deal well with being outside-only animals; they can get sad if they’re on their own and don’t receive enough attention; and if they’re bought as a male and female couple, they can start reproducing from as early as 5-6 months of age, and they can carry multiple litters at the same time!
They have a specialised diet (NOT carrots!), need a specialised living area (unless you want all your things to get chewed up!), and they need specialised vets! Caring for them costs as much as caring for a dog!
They’re a big responsibility!

Also, bunnies are super active. They shouldn’t be locked in a cage, all day every day and they need mental stimulation and play. Get your bunny toys. I diversified into using parrot toys with the clips and chains removed for my bunny to chew, roll around, and toss, because a lot of bunny toys focus on treats and my bunny already gets fresh veggies and herbs every day, as well as kibble and hay. Most bunny treats are high in sugar which can really mess up their digestion and cause serious health problems, so limiting the amount and types of fruit, flowers, and packaged treats they get is important.
Easter surprise
For everyone talking about the bunnies, this is the sign in every Lindt store about A$ & the gold bunnies. It reads:
“Help us support the millions of individuals with autism and their families. From February 15, 2016-March 27, 2016, Lindt will donate 10¢ to Autism $peaks for every Lindt GOLD BUNNY Milk 100g sold, up to $100,000. Learn more at www.lindtusa.com/LindtGOLDBUNNY ”
So that means only the small milk chocolate bunnies contribute to A$, if you get a larger size milk bunny or a 100g white, dark, or hazelnut bunny, they don’t account towards A$. So if you don’t wanna contribute to A$ but consider the bunnies part of your family tradition, you can still have them!!
However, if you want to boycott Lindt in total, that’s def understandable as well. I just think the whole story should be out there! And if you wanna give feedback to Lindt & inform them of what’s wrong with A$, that’s the best way to end this altogether so we don’t have to deal with this next year!
It’s crap chocolate anyway. Just saying.

Holidays and Theme Postings
It’s about five weeks away at this point, but I think I might spend the first day of spring posting and reblogging nothing but pretty nature pictures and flowers.
I’m so ready for spring right now. All of this cold and snow and ice and cold are getting very old.
I won’t be doing anything special for tomorrow. Valentine’s has never been a day we’ve celebrated much. I might do something for Easter though, perhaps a day of rabbit, eggs, chicks, and chocolate.
Oh, and I can’t forget St. Patrick’s Day. Hmm One might get tired of a whole day with just pics of Ireland. Of course, maybe not.
