I knew this would be a good one.

Happy holidays.

I tried this today and it’s good, and pretty quick to make! It’s completely different from any store bought eggnog I’ve had, it’s thick and foamy and tastes like a custard pie in drinkable form. (I think it’s the spices that make me think of pie, instead of just custard in general)

I did a couple things slightly differently - I used half a cup of sugar because a cup sounded too sweet, and a pinch of ground cloves because I didn’t have any whole ones.
And at the end instead of folding in I just poured the whole pot of hot eggnog into the bowl of whipped egg whites while whisking vigorously, and it stayed plenty fluffy.

In the fridge it separated to a big foamy layer and a tiny liquid layer, so I suggest giving it a stir before pouring.

Eggnog season again!
(Not Christmas season yet though, it’s still November, but November can have eggnog.)

I made some after work today, and this time instead of adding the sugar to the egg yolks I melted it down to caramel-y liquid in the pot first and then added the milk & cream afterwards. I can’t tell if this made much of a difference, because I don’t remember what exactly the one I made a year ago tasted like.
