Still thinking about Julian and Garak’s lunch on his 30’s birthday. Like… its actually so sweet? Garak brings him a gift? He comforts him about his fears of growing old? And at this point in the story- they’re straight up just friends. Like, you can argue they are more, but The Wire has already happened. They’ve been having lunches every week for three years.

I truly think in that moment, Garak was actually just trying to do a nice thing for someone he cares about. I don’t really know if we ever get another moment of him like that, where he’s connecting really honestly and just trying to do something kind for a person he likes. It’s such a tiny moment, and Julian is so grumpy, but it also highlights for me how deep their connection actually is. I’m just! Underrated moment tbh

Day 10: “Hope” - GARAK: And what I find interesting is how your mind ended up casting me in the role of the villain.
BASHIR: Oh, I wouldn’t read too much into that, Garak.
GARAK: Oh how can I not? To think, after all this time, all our lunches together, you still don’t trust me… There’s hope for you yet, Doctor.

Thinking about ‘Distant Voices’ in light of Julian’s augments and how it’s tempting to write off his whole survival as a side effect. Physically, this might be true.

But.

Mentally and emotionally? That is ALL Julian. That is Julian Bashir holding onto himself, asserting himself, not allowing himself to be swallowed by the augments or psychic attack or his parents’ bullshit.

BASHIR: I can do anything I want. It is my mind. Begin sterilisation.

This line is so important to me, and I refuse to let the augment storyline ruin its impact.
