→ things: cryptozoology and the unknown
Cryptozoology is the field of study concerned with creatures whose existences are questionable by the standards of mainstream biology. Prominent examples of such cryptids include Bigfoot, the Loch Ness monster, and the Yeti. Cryptozoologists may also look for creatures that definitely once existed but are currently considered extinct. The search for cryptids can be distinguished from more mainstream processes of animal discovery by the willingness of cryptozoologists to use anecdotes and folklore as sources for their investigations.
