I don’t think Damar is as much of a careerist as some people make him out to be. When we meet him he’s some guy on a run down freighter full of renegade loosers who have literally been send there to be as far away from Cardassia as possible, and he seems quite happy to kick some Klingon butt and nurse his crush on Dukat. And then suddenly that guy decides to make a deal with the Dominion and become head of the union, quickly loses his marbles and gets captured by the enemy, and before you can say Obsidian Order Damar finds himself the Dominion’s new figure head and Weyoun’s personal sex toy. No wonder the poor man’s driven to drink.
