shoutout to mila for shooting her shot with an alcoholic war criminal-turned-revolutionary while hiding him, her equally war criminal son, and a delightful bajoran woman in her dead boss/baby daddy’s basement
Honestly, Cardassians being obsessed with wall-to-wall carpeting is a brilliant bit of characterisation on the part of Star Trek’s writers. A culture that puts carpet in an airlock is a culture that has something wrong with it.
A Concept: Cardassians, but they have feathers. Only their faces (and maybe hands) are bare, like vultures. They would be beautiful.
Not sure if they would bother with clothes. Maybe very minimal?
Cardassian hybrids would have feathers in place of hair. Ziyal with a cascade of head feathers. Eyebrows made of tiny feathers.
They have neck feathers that fluff up when they’re angry or afraid. And their body feathers puff up in the cold so much that Garak is in perma-fluffball mode.
Probably their feathers are very soft and highly sought after and Quark is nearly always scheming to get some off of Garak.
I don’t think they would have wings, but their hands might be somewhat more claw-like, long rough fingers with very sharp nails. And they would still have the ridges just hidden under feathers. Their faces would look the same.
Just big humanoid feathered dinosaurs
Some of them might have feathers on their heads like Bearded Vultures:
And some might be bald more like Black Vultures:
Their skin could come in fun colors too!
Like turkey vultures or wild turkeys or cassowaries! Maybe some of them even have bony crests!
There are so many possibilities.

I wonder what the AOS Cardassians are up to. Is it any different for them? I think it probably is. I tend to think of AOS has a whole separate dimension and not just a variant timeline (to borrow a term). I wonder what they would be like if, say, Cardassia Prime hadn’t fallen into the famine that allowed the establishment of fascist rule. They lost so much art and culture and history! It’s really fucking sad actually.
Idk what the point of this post is really XD Just rambling to get the thoughts out
Ok here’s my ultimate headcanon about Cardassian society:
They are not born as “girls” and “boys”. Instead, they choose their gender sometime at young teen age according to personal characteristics, like, men tend to be more sly and manipulative (most likely become soldiers or politicians) and women are more straight-forward (they usually become scientists, doctors, engineers). And since they literally look the same (including tits, which can be seen on Garak time to time and can well be imagined under military uniform), women proudly mark themselves with blue paint. In relationship, men flirt and throw hints but it’s women who choose whether to do anything or not (Dukat didn’t actually force his, uh, feelings onto Bajorian ladies but he organised situations where they just couldn’t not fall for him; Ziyal was push-y not only due to her youth and half-Bajorian heritage but also because of somewhat Cardassian female socialisation; the scientist chik and O'Brien). Surnames passed from a birthgiver (whoever they may be), the slyiest man is the manliest man, Garak is an omnisexual genderfluid baby
