absolutely obsessed with the care and tenderness between garashir in “inferno’s light.” the way julian keeps watch outside the panel, rigid with worry for garak’s safety. the way he frets and frets when they can’t get garak out. the way he RUSHES to pull garak out as soon as it’s safe. his hands on garak’s face and shoulder. garak’s “you want to get out of here? then let me work!” and julian standing his ground insisting garak take regular breaks, “doctor’s orders” anyway come scream with me
my deepest appreciation goes to andrew robinson for playing the garak/ziyal romance in a way that made it as unbelievable as conceivably possible 🙏
did not realize how true this was until watching by inferno’s light the other day…his reaction when she weirdly kisses the corner of his mouth??? Perfection.
that is not a comfortable lizard
does this expression look like that of a man suddenly gifted with new life by the unconditional love of a spirited young woman? no. this is a cry for help.
I watched “By inferno’s light” and it was incredible to see the Klingon’s response to Garak’s struggle with claustrophobia:
General Martok: there is no greater enemy than one’s own fears. Mr. Worf: It takes a brave man to face them.
I was absolutely floored when I heard it. Many people would assume that in a society like Klingon’s society people who struggle with mental health would be considered weak, fragile, and unworthy. But these two lines, combined with their respectful facial expressions, prove that, canonically, it is exactly the opposite.
The greater enemy that a Klingon warrior can fight against is their own fears, mental health struggles are the biggest struggles a Klingon warrior can face. It takes great bravery to engage in what triggers your anxiety: you are not a coward for having anxiety, you are dauntless for refusing avoidance. This is canonically what Klingon warriors think.
Excuse me while I flutter about in joy for the acknowledgment that a group of tough, hard-bitten, gritty Klingons warriors would tell me how proud they are of me for my ongoing battle against depression and anxiety while we share a drink on DS9. I would cry ngl
writer 1: so Garak is going to look at Julian’s haggard exhausted face and then force himself to endure intense psychological trauma so he can save this man’s life?
writer 2: yep
writer 1: because he looks into Julian’s eyes and knows Julian is a higher priority than his own sanity? his care for Julian overrides even his innate Cardassian self-preservation instinct?
writer 2: you got it
writer 1: and earlier we wrote that scene where he allowed Julian to share the most private meaningful moment of his life, even giving him his greatest secret- the identity of his father…
writer 3: I mean maybe I’m being crazy here but that sounds a little gay
writer 2: oh don’t worry, I wrote him one single line where he mentions he’s doing it for that one girl Cardassian
writer 1: the girl he’s specified his lack of romantic interest for in multiple previous episodes?
By Inferno’s Light is just like, Julian forcing Garak to take care of himself while he goes through a traumatic time trying to get them all out of there
