Since the other poll has ended, let’s do another! Here are some birds that were requested and some that I just think are cool that weren’t included in the first poll. Still no corvids, sorry. Corvidae will be included in a poll with songbirds and the winner of this poll. (yes ‘songbirds’ is an very vague group. I wasn’t expecting to end up getting this technical with the other categories. Maybe I should break it down and do another poll? How many bird themed polls is too many?)

Which Group of Birds Do You Like Best?

Columbidae (pigeons and doves)

Picidae (woodpeckers, flickers, and sapsuckers)

Pelecaniformes (pelicans, herons, ibises, and spoonbills)

Gruidae (cranes)

Ciconiidae (storks)

Megapodes* (scrubfowl, brush turkeys, malleefowl, etc)

Paradisaeidae (birds-of-paradise, sicklebills, riflebirds, etc)

*yes, megapodes are galliformes which were included in the earlier poll, but they are unique and very cool and you should google them, go on.

I am sure there are more that I’ve missed. There are so many kinds of birds!

Hi hello neurodivergent people who love clicky button, i am a neurodivergent person and I am interested in what kind of hyperfixations are most common! If you have multiple current hyperfixations (me too), choose the main one!

what best describes what you are CURRENTLY hyperfixated on?

a band/musical artist

a tv show

a movie/cinematic universe

a video game

a podcast

an internet celebrity/influencer (including twitch/YouTube)

a subject about the natural world (e.g. an animal, human biology, space)

a subject NOT about the natural world (e.g. electronics, history, architecture)

other (tell me in tags!)

I don’t have hyperfixations, show results

if you are willing to please reblog so I can reach more neurodivergent people and get more interesting results!

Did you all know that herons, cranes, and storks are all members of different orders? Storks and herons are closely related despite this. Cranes, however, are not. There aren’t any cranes in South America.

The order Gruiformes, which includes cranes, is the misc box of birds. You got a bird or a group of birds and don’t know where to put them? They’re Gruiformes now, baby!

Herons are in the order Pelecaniformes with pelicans, ibises, and spoonbills. Also shoebills are here despite sometimes being called shoebill storks.

Proper storks are in the order Ciconiiformes. Fun fact: Marabou Storks can reach 5ft tall and have 10ft wingspans. Herons and ibises used to be here until they got shuffled over with the pelicans.

Taxonomy! It’s constantly evolving and improving. Evolution is cool and so are birds.

and yes I left corvids off on purpose, bc I figured they would win by a long margin. I want to see what other kinds of birds people like! Also these groupings aren’t exactly scientific, so like, don’t yell at me.
