Transcript: Yesterday my cousin said that my rooster wasn’t a real rooster. He said he’s a Walmart rooster. *chicken noises* Does this not look like a real rooster to you? *chicken makes a sound again* Sure, he’s small, but he has feelings.
important context this person looks and sounds like they’re gonna cry
to the Starling video. Yes, they can be a handful, yes, they are messy and invasive (in the US), but they are also quite entertaining and expressive. And their feathers are fascinating in their richness and variety amongst individual birds. In some of these, you can already see a change from the males’ winter look - they lose the dots, get that jewellish glossy look, the legs become more vibrantly red, and the beaks turn from grey to yellow.
This is Jersey the BARRED owl, she’s a little over 20 years old and came to the world bird sanctuary as an aggressive imprint. With a little work she is now a vocal lovebug we use for a lot of educational programs to teach people about raptors!
What the fuck those things are real I thought it was just a cartoon
I thought the same thing when I moved to Arizona
Little velociraptor
Lads
ok but roadrunners are so cool, I can seldom think of a bird more velociraptor-like
more people need to know they’re real because look at this, this is some real walking with dinosaurs shit
they have powerful legs allowing them to run up to 20mph and leap to impressive heights with ease
they are extremely swift and fearless, quick enough to take down a sizable rattlesnake and other large prey animals like lizards and mice
they have several unique adaptations to thermoregulate, such as the dark patch of feathers on their back which acts as a solar panel to absorb heat, or its crest that either releases or absorbs heat by exposing its skin
they have these long, stiff tailfeathers that they use as a counterbalance when running, very reminiscent of the rod-like tail of a dromaeosaur
and they are capable of bursts of flight/gliding with incredibly beautiful plumage
I’m genuinely shocked how many people think they’re made up, they are real and they are AWESOME
And they can’t outrun coyotes but there’s so little meat on their skinny bods that the songdogs just can’t be bothered–most of the time.
Had some that nested in the pasture next to us. They used to hop up onto the electrical lines between the poles and run along them! Wish I’d gotten a shot of them doing it…it was nuts to see. Â
the pompadour cotinga is a distinctly burgundy member of the cotinga family found in the amazon rainforest. they are primarily frugivorous, but are known to consume insects and small prey such as lizards on occasion, particularly to supplement their diet during the breeding season. like other cotingas, the sexual dimorphism in this species is stark, with the male’s vibrant burgundy coloring standing out against the female’s pale gray. males perform an elaborate mating ritual for the female, but have little to no involvement in raising the young.
Goslings of domesticated geese (don’t quote me because I’m not 100%, but this looks like maybe an embden gosling, which is your pretty common white farm goose) generally make great hand-raised birds. This baby is just following her daddy around. She looks healthy, and has not been placed on any danger. Her vocalizations are not distress vocalizations.
