Halbarad (†15 March, T.A. 3019)
Halbarad was a Ranger of the North. For a long time he secretly protected the borders of the Shire. During the War of the Ring he lead the Grey Company to aid their chief Aragorn. Together they passed through the Paths of the Dead and fought in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, where Halbarad was eventually slain.
Do you want to know why readers of the LotR were so upset about the goddam elven army at Helm’s Deep? This is why. Because it totally erases Halbarad as a character and steals from Aragorn a reunion with a much treasured friend. These are men who have dedicated their lives to keeping the peace in the north and following the man they claim as lord and king. They bring so much hope and comfort with them when none is expected. To have all of that taken away and replaced with a mostly faceless generic elven army is a travesty, plain and simple.
