i think the american roadtrip as a manifestation of the vast is a deeply sexy concept. you’ve been traveling for hours and there’s nothing. it’s been empty for as long as you’ve been on the road. you look out in any direction and it’s just more of the same, that vast unchanging emptiness of fields or planes or empty desert to either side of you, the road stretching out infinitely in front of you, behind you. you can do nothing but marvel at the sheer vastness of the land around you, and feel like you can’t be much more than an insignificant little speck against the enormity of the world around you
